okay, so i guess that people people know the Lee Marvin won a Navy Silver Star for his service at Iwo Jima; however, he was not the only one. the other was quite famous in his own right, yet viturally know one knows that he too was given the Navy's next-to top honor for his valorous actions that day at Iwo Jima... who was he? none other than Sergeant Bob Keeshan; known to you and I as Captain Kangaroo.

while we're on the famous military heroes you never knew about trip, Mister Rogers served as a Navy SEAL in Vietnam with 25 confirmed kills. later, he became a Minister, so he wore the sweaters to cover all his tattoos...

yup. it's true.

Maybe it's because I'm half-asleep and don't see the humor, but the Mr. Rogers story is a myth.....

It's about 1/2 of the way down the page. He was too old to have been in Vietnam....

Urban Legends Reference Pages: Mister Rogers

I looked it up as well....Captain Kangaroo wasn't even 18 yet when Iwo Jima was fought.

That chain letter is actually .000.

Lee Marvin was wounded during the battle of Saipan in June of 44. He spent the rest of his Marine Corps service recovering from his wounds before being discharged.

He did not participate in the assault on Iwo Jima nor was he awarded the Silver Star.

Yeah, but he killed Tim Strawn and took his metal nose!

I love that we have Snopes and pages like it but on the other hand, in the past, oral history was FUN. These are good stories, even if they are untrue. It made for a colorful life that wasn't about anyone not wearing panties or how much drugs they were doing.
