Game Thread Fiesta Bowl 2016 - tOSU vs Notre Dame, Friday 1/1 @ 1pET, ESPN

It's not taken me long to already start gearing up for this one. This is a great chance for some legendary Buckeyes to put a bow on some elite careers, put the Domers in their proper place and help us retain a recruiting edge and then just drop the fucking mic on this season and walk off the stage.

I like this matchup, I think it favors us by a good margin. Just hope the team comes out focused and not disappointed that it's not a playoff game it's still a big game for recruiting and pride. And I want to see Brian Kelly lose his fucking head this game and get fired for curb stomping one of his players on the sideline.

I said it somewhere, but not sure if in this thread. But I hope osu (and I suppose either Iowa or stanford) completely crush ND (and either stanford or Iowa) along with Oklahoma getting absolutely clobbered. It would show A) the B12 better getting a fucking championship game, B) championships shouldn't get as much weight as they obviously are getting, and C) they better get on the 8 team playoff train and soon IMO. Iowa, OSU, and Stanford have resumes that at least compare to Oklahoma. I personally think they have it right, but they are at least comparable. The difference between #7 and #2 in terms of resume is marginal to be honest. Maybe even throw in Clemson too.

8 team playoff is not going to destroy the regular season. You'll still need 2 or less losses in most years. There's 64 power 5 teams. Having an 8 team playoff would only encompass 12.5% of the population. Less than 5% for all of division 1. It would also allow an undefeated group of 5 team to get in potentially. Imagine a Boise or Houston who is undefeated getting in as an 8 seed. Or not. But at least have a chance.

And it's really not that difficult to do it. I agree that it may be difficult to have the quarter finals be neutral field since 3 post games may be asking too much from parents/fans financially if their team goes all the way. But have the first round 2 weeks after the end of the conference championships at the top seeds home field. Then the semis 2 weeks after that at a neutral site. I would also have the losers play each other as well then. Not for anything, but as an additional bowl game. Mostly due to not punishing them by giving them less bowl practices than teams not making the final 8.

There would be kinks to work out since you don't want to ruin new year day bowl games like the Rose, so it may not be a perfect system. But something along those lines.

Edit: I initially set out to type about a third of that, but kind of got on a roll. So probably no longer completely relevant to this thread.

Tl;dr: Go Bucks! Crush ND! Go Iowa/Stanford! Crush Stanford/Iowa! Go 8 team playoff!

Even the dipshits on ESPN today were saying how great it would be right now if it were an eight-team playoff with the current teams. They mentioned the matchups under an eight-team format and that how much college football fans would eat it up:

#1 Clemson - #8 Notre Dame (yeah, rematch from early season, but...)
#2 Alabama - #7 Ohio State (a rematch that everyone wants to see)
#3 Michigan State - #6 Stanford (would've been the Rose Bowl matchup had Sparty not made to top 4 in today's system)
#4 Oklahoma - #5 Iowa (smash-mouth game)

Aside from the Clemson-ND rematch, the other three games would be great and the Alabama-Ohio State and Michigan State-Stanford games would be absolute ratings bonanzas...

Maybe I'll start to give a fuck as it gets closer
You sound like a Bama fan in an off year. Admit it, you like to say "Roll tide" when you think nobody else is around.

The only way OSU loses this game is to play like Alabama in a bowl game. ND has that "one step slow" look that they had in 2012 when they got stomped. OSU still has the most talented team in the country, they just have to finally play like it.
