Fines will be imposed for clear cases of flopping

Maybe they should worry about intentional fouls away from the ball. 2 shots and the ball with the team choosing their ft shooter like they do for tee's.

I think fining is pretty stupid. Where is the line between charging and flopping? So, if it's a big guy, he's flopping and a little guy it's charging. Tough call.

Maybe they should leave the first stage to the refs. If you flop and it's called a charge or block you are good. If you flop and it doesn't get called it gets reviewed.

"Flopping" is an issue but for me and especially in the playoffs, the consistent grabbing of arms while guarding and moving picks is an issue....they need to clean it up.

A certain part of me would like to see them call every single foul, and if it takes 34 hours and the teams end up playing 2-on-2 at the end, so be it. The game is really frustrating to watch sometimes with so much contact and so little consistency in what is called a foul.

These multi-millionare players don't are about fines. The only way to stop it is to punish the team (i. e. techical foul and/or ejection); then I'm sure the head coach will put an instant stop to any of his players flopping.

On the positive side, I guess that a good history of flopping in the NBA might contribute to a real good resume for future employment with the WWE.

The Spurs are screwed!

i was thinking, though, that if a player were to flop and a foul is called if they then got fined the team could reimburse them. i agree that fining isn't the answer to the issue, but it may help.

I agree. It sounds like a good idea, but it's going to come down to someone sitting there looking at video and trying to read a guy's mind. Not every "flop" is blatantly obvious.

I'm sitting here imagining what European soccer would look like if they adopted this policy. There would probably be riots in the streets. :p

NBA to outlaw, fine players for flopping

We've all seen it, usually as plain as day. One NBA player gets close to the chin with an elbow and the other player flings his head back. Depending on who you are and what situation you're in, the fling of the head is usually highly stylized and exaggerated and usually draws a foul. The NBA is finalizing a deal to outlaw the practice of flopping, but true to David Stern form, the solution to the problem is just another money grab for the NBA rather than an actual solution.

NBA to crack down on flopping

The NBA officially adopted an anti-flopping policy Wednesday, announcing a new rule that will fine repeat offenders this season.
Any player who flops during a regular-season game will be subject to a series of penalties, beginning with a warning for first-time violators. After the warning, players will be fined in increments of $5,000 for each additional flop over the course of the season. The fines increase to $30,000 for a fifth offense.
The NBA stated it would consider suspending any player who violates the anti-flopping rule more than five times in the regular season. The league said it will announce at a later date a separate set of penalties for flopping during the postseason.

I'll stick with my response on this idea from 4 years ago.

I have to agree with the players' union on this one. To attempt to determine intent the day after is "vague and arbitrary", to say the least.
