Fishing (Official Thread)

Maumee river report. ice went out last week tore river road totally though on the Maumee side. Ice is gone but is stacked up to 8 foot thick along the banks. This ice will keep the water temp down some but some Walleye will be starting up river soon.
Probably won't heat up for a couple weeks yet. No one in the river yet on either side.

I heard Buttonwood park is pretty jacked up and they might not have it sorted out for quite some time.

The Maumee is ice free except for what remains on the banks but it is still too cold for the run to start. There may be some early birds come up but few and far between. Starting about the 16th there should be people in the river on an increasing basis. About the 23rd the fish should be coming up in a good number.

The Maumee has fish in it. Quite a few anglers.
The water is slightly high so the best spots would be Orleans park on the Pburg side and White Road on the Maumee side. The ice floes caused a catastrophic amount of damage on both sides and reports are that Buttonwood is all torn up. Maumee river road is still cut out and access is only as far as the cemetery and from Jerome road as available. Be that as it may there is so much debris all along the roadside and riverside that some areas are not open to parking let alone access to the river.
I you are coming from out of town I would stick to these areas;
Orleans park. Fort meigs. White road. Ford st. and behind the metroparks shelters in the sidecut.

I'm gonna try to come up Sunday morning. Will shoot you a note once it's locked in.

Just checked the river and it has dropped way down. Best places are the high water spots like Ford st. Buttonwood and Blue grass island and Jerome rd. No one is fishing Orleans pk and White rd. If it rains tonite the rule of thumb is that it takes 2 days for the water to crest. that would mean Sunday night to be the highest.

I think Nutria and I spent sometime figuring out these aren't the same sheepshead, but I'd have to go find it. (Probably was in PMs)
I know, these are not Lake Erie sheepshead. I about freaked out when we chartered a boat in Charleston and they couldn’t go out in the ocean that day. So the guy says we’re going to do some sheepshead in the river, I was like the f we are. I’m not fishing for trash fish. Different fish all together. Fun to catch and yummy.
