Fishing (Official Thread)

Alum is pretty decent depending on what you are after. I live up there. It is pretty well known as a Saugeye lake and they tend to bite all spring and summer long. It has its fair share of Musky hunters, and some people swear by it as a bass lake. It gets really crowded with recreational boaters on the weekends. Other areas nearby that are decent are

Delaware Reservior - Good for bass and pan fish

O'Shaughnessy Reservioir - north of the zoo. Good Bass fishing, gets its fair share of skiers on the weekends, but no Jet Ski's allowed so it is not nearly as crazy as Alum.

Hoover is nice, but they have a 10 Hp limit. no sure what you have on your boat.

There are some decent websites around that give daily fishing reports. I think someone posted GoFishOhio, that is a good one.

Thanks for the infor. That's exactly what I was looking for.

The boat we are taking has much more than 10 Hp. Do you know if you can take a bigger boat and just troll?

I love fishing. Don't do it as much as I would like nowadays but I got hooked, pun intended, when I was a little guy and went fishing with my Grandpa down at the Salton Sea in Southern Calif. I would literally catch 55-65 fish in just 5-6 hours time. Mostly Croaker and Sargo. They don't bite like that now, but those were the days, believe me. Since those day's I still go and fish off the jetty at the Salton Sea and catch Croaker, Corvina - a great fighting fish, along with Tilapia.

I've gone deep sea fishing here on the left coast many, many times. Also fish off the pier. Trout fishing in streams and rivers, and Bass fishing in lakes and ponds. I've only fly fished once but would like to learn the art of fly fishing. I've also gone catfishing quite a few times. I caught a 25 lb catfish once.

About the only fish I don't like to eat is catfish but I love to eat fish. I've eaten baracudda, cod, halibut, shark, swordfish, mahi mahi, tuna, croaker, corvina, tilipia, sargo, catfish - yuck, bass - both lake and sea, trout, salmon and probably a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

Fish on!!

Does anyone like to do this?

Bass? Fly? Recreational? Do you have a boat? Lakes? Rivers? Oceans (if you are a lucky bastard)?

Can you tell I am ready for warmer weather!

Whatevers biting, no boat :( , Lakes or Rivers. I wish I had more time, I used to love fishing and golf....

No, not "at the same time".

Several lake I have been to are very nice and great to spend a day or so of boating but I don't do enough fishing to know how good it is.
Try: Tappan...Piedmont....Clendening.. All are a fairly short drive from Saltfork.

Is there a website that speaks to the Maumee spring run?
There are some, but mainly bait shops that always say the fishing is great. I had one but don't anymore. I have fished it for about 40 years. Basically it starts after the ice goes out around Mar. 15th, dependant on air and water temp. It will be good for at least one month and probably longer.
If you need any info PM me . I"ll be glad to help

Fishing in Idaho is great. Plenty of varieties to choose from. Streams to alpine lakes. I fly fish mostly, but like BUCKYLE, I do like getting my worm wet. I fish the lakes from a float tube with my fly rod. That an a pair of snorkeling fins takes me across any of the smallish mountain lakes. The float tube is not suited to big open water, wind, and big boat traffic. Nothing is better that a few trout or salmon with dark pink meat. I don't really recommend a class, but a bottle opener is a must. Happy fishing!

I don't particularly care for fishing except for every couple years that me and a friend of mine will go "play" on his uncles ponds. It's been a few, but this guy has two lakes on his property that are just crawling with 5 lb.+ Bass. Basically, nobody fishes these ponds and the simple rule is catch and release. I pulled a 12 pounder out back in 1987. That bastard is probably 20 by now and still swimming. Don't have to worry about bait either, as the place is loaded with tree frogs. Anybody who loves Bass fishing would kill to spend a day here.

I just got back from a 5 day fishing trip wth some old college buddies from 3O years ago. We rented a nice houseboat, 55' long, on were out on Lake Shasta up in Northern CA. Great time away, got caught up on some friends I hadn't seen in years, and caught large mouth bass, spotted bass and blue gill. My first time up to Shasta, and man, is it a beautiful place.

you almost had yourself a state record! 13.1 is the ohio record. the biggest bass i've ever caught was on my old girlfriends pond just like the one you speak of. that place was awesome.
