A new state record for a white bass?

White bass from the Maumee a record?
Napoleon resident landed trophy near Grand Rapids

All that Tim Spurgeon wanted to do last Saturday evening was kick back with a fishing buddy and enjoy an easy evening's angling down on the Maumee River.

He didn't think he would come out with a potential state record white bass.

But the fish that Spurgeon landed, 22 1/2-inches long and weighing a certified 4 pounds, 10 ounces, could be just that.

The current white bass record is 4 pounds, 21 inches.

It still must be confirmed by Ohio Division of Wildlife biologists, who are expected to check the fish today, and then be officially certified in cooperation with the Outdoor Writers of Ohio, the official record-keepers in the state.

The only fly in the ointment is that the fish could be a hybrid - a cross between a striped bass and a white bass, which sometimes is called a wiper.

Caught a real nice largemouth in a pond on campus last weekend, about 6 1/2 lbs. Biggest I've caught in a couple of years....

come on, tell a fish story. what'd you catch it on? did it fight? jump? i need to live vicariously through someone else. there aren't many bass fishing holes in NYC:biggrin:

How about a scuba whooper?
In the Grand Caymans I once dove to 110 ft!

Off of the BVI I had to do a scuba rescue of another diver in a driving rainstorm out in the Atlantic.

Off St Croix, I did the infamous Christiansted pier leap(at night, 20ft drop, in unlit water, in full dive gear). Then had to climb a 20ft slippery aluminum ladder afterwards.

Got "stuck/hungup" in a shipwreck off St Croix. Took a few minutes to untangle myself from a iron stairwell in a dark ship hold. (that was scary).

Had numerous margaritas made in scary slushy machines!

When I was teenager a friend's family and I went to Dale Hollow Lake on the Ky tenn border for a week bass fishing.
One day we were fishing with crawler harnesses by bouncing them off a cliff face and letting them drop into very deep water.
all of a sudden a drake mallard started diving after our bait. we caught that duck a lot of times. we would reel him in and and free him and he would go right back after the worms. True story!

Black plastic worm, jumped once, didn't fight much, as with the other big pond bass, it didn't know what was going on. Fun though.!

Just got back from a fishing trip w/ a couple of buddies. Stayed at Charles Mill Lake. No boat, so we were just shore fishing. Caught some catfish, striped bass, and a gizzard shad. Nothing really of size to mention. Tried our hand at trolling for muskie in the Clear Fork Reservoir, to no avail.
