Fishing (Official Thread)

State record 11.21 sucker almost doubles the old record

This fish record may last
Toledoan takes 11.21-pound sucker; previous mark 7.36

Ten years ago Toledoan Brent McGlone held the state bowfishing record for suckers - for about a month.

Now he holds it again and it looks as though it will be awhile before it is beaten.

On May 18 while searching riffles for spawning fish near Weir Rapids in the Maumee River above Waterville, he shot a greater redhorse sucker 31 1/2-inches long weighing 11.21 pounds. That far outweighs the 7.36-pound bowfishing record taken by Mike Stumph of Columbus in 1997 on Big Walnut Creek.

I hate catching suckers. Used to get those in the summer in MI when doing some trout fishing. The ones up there were kind of reflective up the football team: hard hit at first, about a minute of fighting and then played dead until it was over.

Bought the boys some rods a couple of weekends ago. This is the first weekend day since then we have not gone fishing. Guess I created a couple of monsters.

Great Blue Gill and Bass fishing.
This sounds like it would be a great place to take your kid(s) for a day or two.

La Su An lakes stuffed with bluegills
20,000 harvested annually, nearly half in 8-inch range

Doug Bermick, of Temperance, and his long-time college buddy, Tim Friend, of Wauseon, enjoyed a classic La Su An day recently.

They were fishing, of course, at Ohio's famed Lake La Su An chain of lakes in Williams County, and, surprisingly, they had the place almost to themselves on a Sunday afternoon and evening.

"Maybe it's the price of gas," Bermick mused. He noted, for example, that only three or four photos of big fish were posted so far this summer on the check-station leaderboard, including a 10 1/4-inch pumpkinseed.

I fish all the time...

We fish all the time.

I just went northern pike fishing on the Key River near Britt, Ontario last week and walleye fishing on lake Erie yesterday. :)

Yesterday, my wife and I limited out within three hours while trolling on Lake Erie about 1 mile outside of the Grand River basin in 40 feet of water with deep diving Raps. The walleye class of 2003 has been stellar for 20" to 24" walleye this year. After that, we hit a school of white bass near the headlands beach and called it a day.

A 28 foot Bayliner and a small bass boat are part of our artillery. More lures , than brains too.

Just got back from a week near Thessalon, Ontario. Went back to a lake that I was at when I was about 14. Unbelievable smallmouth fishing, especially for Eastern Ontario. We averaged several 4-5 pound smallies per day, with the occassional whitefish/nothern.

The lake isnt known for walleye at all, but if you do find them, they are huge. We got a 26", 27" and lost a 30" right at the boat. That bastard woulda went on my wall

Awesome trip though, biggest smallmouth was 19.5". If any of you ever wanted to try a canada trip, this is a great place to start. Small lake, real nice people, and it only runs about $300/person

I had an absolutely Great time fishing with 4 other guys including two of my nephews. We caught some perch and I got a 22 in. walleye. We had beer, water, Coke, and other various icy cold beverages along with hero sammiches.
I havent been able to get out on the lake since 05 so I was looking forward to it. The boat owner had just gotten this boat and it kept stalling out. Sounded like water in the fuel but I didn't care since we had a great time.
I love fishing !
