The Buckeyes have to be pleased with the recent comments made by one of the nations top prospects.

Akers digging Ohio State

As things stand today, Ohio State holds pledges from two 2017 running backs -- J.K. Dobbins and Todd Sibley. However, there has been plenty of buzz that Sibley, an Akron native, won't be in the class when pen hits paper. With that being said, the Buckeyes have been actively recruiting prospects that make a living out of the backfield. One, and possibly the biggest target, would be 2017 RB Cam Akers from Clinton, Miss.

Akers, a 5-foot-11, 210-pounder, was formerly committed to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. However, last month the five-star prospect had a change of heart and decided to back off of his verbal to Alabama. Just days later, Akers would make a trip up to Columbus for an unofficial visit to the Ohio State campus.

On Wednesday, in an interview with Bill Kurelic of 247Sports.com, Akers spoke about how things are going between the two parties:

"My family and myself love Ohio State and what the [football] program is doing. They always produce good running backs. They are always in the running for the national championship and the academics are great also."

It doesn't take much to see how interested the Magnolia State prospect is in Ohio State. It'll be important for Head Coach Urban Meyer and the rest of the staff to keep the foot on the gas in this recruitment. Akers is a the nation's 19th overall player, second best running back, and the best player from Mississippi.

2018 TE lands OSU offer

While the primary focus is on the 2017 class, Ohio State is making their efforts to get in early with some 2018 players. The most recent being '18 TE Mustapha Muhammed from Missouri City, Texas.

The Buckeyes joined Alabama, Baylor, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and UCLA on the offer sheet for the 6-foot-4, 213-pounder out of the Lone Star state. 247Sports grades the Missouri City native as a four-star prospect and a top ten player at the Tight End position.

Jackson makes it official

Switching gears to the basketball Buckeyes, 2016 JUCO guard C.J. Jackson officially inked with Ohio State on Wednesday. The newest addition to the program is a 6-foot-1, 170-pounder who may need to help sooner rather than later considering all of the departures as of late.

Jackson, who most recently attended Eastern Florida State College, joins Derek Funderburk. Micah Potter and Andre Wesson in Thad Matta's and the Buckeyes 2016 class. Jackson will have three years of eligibility in Columbus as a member of the Ohio State hoops team.
