Jordan Battle (DB Alabama)

I always hate losing talented players like Battle. However, I feel that this is one position that has been recruited really well over the last few classes, so while unfortunate, it shouldn't hurt.

Brendon White
Amir Riep
Tyreke Johnson
Josh Proctor
Ronnie Hickman
Bryson Shaw

We should be good a Safety for a bit.

But again, hate losing talented players....

Take White out and you have 3 guys who couldn't get/stay on the field this year in one of the worst seasons for Safety play in recent memory and two guys who haven't played a down of college football yet.

I know there is a lot of hype around Proctor but that list and what we saw this year on the field in no way makes me feel good about the position overall.

So rather than simply say the other names are unproven you are holding it against the true freshman that they weren't playing a 2 man position?

Wade and White were the 4th and 5th in line at safety and both did well. It's a 2 man position and Fuller locked down one spot most of the year.

For the 6th-8th options to see the field, those two would need to be terrible.

Also the participation reports I'm seeing around the interwebs leave much to be desired, as I recall Riep getting on the field in spot duty.

We saw Riep for far longer than we probably should have. One can only assume the names who couldn't take PT away from him have question marks.

The point of the post was more to question the premise that OSU is somehow stacked/well off at S. There are more questions than answers imo.

The position could turn out just fine but that's far from a given at this point.

I suspect you are confusing Riep with Prior?

yes. My bad.

Still, a bunch of true freshman and positionless athletes is a far cry from being all set at a position group.

EDIT

I was thinking of Wint. Who was the primary starter next to Fuller for the first 2/3 of the season?
Wint. Pryor was starting in September and struggled also (though looked the part athletically).

Riep is a true sophomore (same age and about as much XP as Wade before October) who played very sparingly when they were down a few guys.

Proctor has had some chatter during practice, but obviously we need to see it before we can put stock into it.
