I didn't look through the links above, but Wayne is super-dedicated to academics, to the point of actually having near-valedictorian status. Definitely one of the more well rounded kids you will meet. On the field, he reminds me of Gideon Ajagbe, who I believe is still going Gator in two weeks. Long and lean but freaky athletic skills.

Scout $ - Lyons with a Plan

OFFERS: Ohio State, 'Bama, Auburn, Florida, FSU, Miami-FL, Notre Dame, Tennessee... Won Def. MVP at the Army combine and an invite to next years game... In the process of developing relationships which is harder with the staff turnover at many of his offered schools... Tressel is visiting him next week... Is trying to plan as many visits as possible this Spring and hopes to narrow his list by summer... No leaders at this time...

It is actually very reassuring he does not state to a Florida website that he has a leader. From what I understand he does have a couple UF connections. Wayne is a very smart kid who "gets it"... seems like we've got another Safety (Jeremy Cash) along those same lines possibly in the fold so far. I am praying he sees our lack of premier Safties coming in and it could entice him to travel north. Florida has QUITE the haul this year, for DBs in general. I believe they'll be the main competition for anybody throughout Wayne's recruitment. Wayne could be A LOT like Donte Whitner, IMHO.

Lyons Continues to Land Offers
January 27, 2010 by Luke Stampini

...
?I recently just got Ohio State, USC, Nebraska, UConn, Wisconsin, and think that?s all,? said Lyons who also picked up offers from Illinois and Wake Forest following the time of the interview.

...
?That?s pretty good to get offered by Ohio State because they compete in the Rose Bowl like every year and like almost every other year they go to the national championship, so they are a power. Jim Tressell is supposed to be coming to the school on Thursday.?

...
?I?m just looking at all the different offers and the amount of interest a school shows in me,? explained Lyons. ?I?m going to wait until my senior year when I talk all of my visits, and after I get a real good feel for all of the schools before deciding.?

Scout $ - Is Lyons The Top Safety For 2011?

1/28

By The Bank...after great performances in San Antonio and the South Florida Express 7-on-7, Lyons has entered the conversation as being maybe the best safety in the nation...talks about why he is interested in OSU and says OSU will get one of his officials...also likes Stanford, Notre Dame and Florida...academics will be a big part of his decision.

Scout $ - 2011 Intro: Wayne Lyons

Schools of interest that haven't offered include LSU, Clemson, & _ichigan... His top 3 factors are playing time, the coaching staff, & program prestige... Distance won't be a factor & he'll go wherever is the best fit... He & several teammates are trying to plan a northern camp swing (Nike, schools, etc.)...

While Lyons says he's open he admits that Ohio State, Ole Miss, Stanford, Nebraska, & Florida St. are a little ahead of the rest... He's being recruited for both DB positions but he thinks he'll end up as a safety... He looks to be on track to easily qualify & he's starting to get excited about recruiting...

I love how often Ohio State seems to be the first school out of Wayne's mouth.

Looking forward to this recruitment for sure. It would be yet another coup by the coaching staff to get a kid like this out of Florida.
