FL OT Tyler Booker (Alabama Verbal)

Listening to an interview several months back, it sounded like his value of facing SEC competition every week would make it extremely difficult to pry him out of the south. I honestly don’t have a ton of faith in Stud to close the deal here but if it happens, man that’s a huge get, and a pleasantly surprising one at that.

It’s interesting that the “authenticity” angle came up again, here.

I’ve seen people on 11W speculate that one of the issues Ohio State may have with securing elite tackles is that Studrawa et al don’t promise starting spots to recruits and instead “authentically” lay out the grind that it will take to start at Ohio State (or whatever).

I don’t know how much validity there is to that theory, but it is interesting to consider since “authenticity” comes up so often from recruits.

Maybe, but it also works in our favor a lot too and leads to fewer transfers down the road imo.

Yeah, it’s definitely a strategic choice by the coaches... value players who buy in to putting in the work over the ones who value being told they have a starting spot lined up for them (potentially if this theory is correct).

We have one of the best lines in the country right now, so it’s going well at the moment.

As has been discussed ad nauseam, it will be interesting to see how they manage to transition over the next few years and if some of the underrated guys step up who have gotten good reviews (like Fryar) and really show that the staff knows what they’re doing with this possible preference that potentially costs them in some recruitments.

Idk if I'd consider Fryar to be "underrated", as he's going to have a high chance of starting next year. What I'm interested in, is what Stud can do with guys like Leroux and Michelski. If he can make at least decent starters out of them, then getting a guy like Booker could be made into an All B1G or even All American

Committed to Alabama.

“It was great just being on campus in my own recruitment,” Booker said. “It’s something I’ve always worked for. It’s something that just proves to me that all my hard work is now starting to pay off. I used to go to camps when I was younger and see older kids on their visits, and I just always wanted to be in that position. Now that I’m in that position it shows you can get anywhere with hard work and dedication and believing in your dreams.”

Booker is very closet to Alabama freshman JC Latham, someone he says he considers a big brother, from their time at IMG Academy together. Another person that helped UA land the big lineman is new offensive line coach Doug Marrone.

“I’ve been talking to Coach Marrone a good amount,” Booker said. “We gel really well. I like Coach Marrone a lot. He’s another Northeast guy like myself. We both know what it’s like to come from I would say not strong football areas and still make it out on top in our respective fields. So I feel like we connect there. And it’s just different being from the Northeast, you have a different type of vibe, you have a different type of hunger, because you know not everybody is being afforded the same opportunities you are. So those two things and just everything we talk about, he just wants to help me pick the best school for me. And at the same time try to show me why Alabama is the best school for me. But most importunely make sure I’m making the right decision for myself. I appreciate him for keeping it real with me.”

Just sayin': It will be intereating to see if Pepper Johnson as the new head coach at the IMG Accademy will help Ohio State's future recruiting efforts at that school.
