Florida Gators (official thread)

Why do they have such a problem attracting players who get in trouble? Blows my mind.

Goes back to UFM and continued on.

UFM comes here and no issues, and I doubt UFM changed his recruiting approach.
Based on everything I have read, UFM definitely did change his recruiting approach when he came to tOSU. He talked about focusing more on the type person he recruited as opposed to solely on their athletic ability. He said he recruited the type of people he wanted to be around.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong here but;
  • 1 kid is accused, not convicted, of sexual assault,
  • 1 didn't want to room with the accused rapey guy and
  • the others were grades, no?
If so, not exactly a freshman crime spree

Theyve lost a bunch of people this year. Not just those in the 2019 class that's been mentioned.
Some of it is what we're seeing everywhere (playing time) ... but it's very eye raising.

I'm perplexed at ubet trying to blame the last coach when Mullen recruited a top10 class... they scurried like rats only after they got to Gainesville.

I remember that but IMO you don't finish 2nd best over the past 7 years that way.

McElwain reaching Tyrone Willingham territory.

Seems to me those recruits signed up for UF... they left when they saw current staff / situation.

I could rely upon your perception of Gator recruiting over the last several years instead of those who follow the UF program closely...but I won't.

As has been pointed out, you want great athletes with no other issues. If your recruiting pipelines are not as good as you'd like, you may have to take a chance with great athletes with more question marks. And when you do, you can get bitten when those question marks blow up into more problems than they might with a different group. We got bit. Largely self inflicted, to be sure. But we are not yet able to be as selective as we'd want to be.

You guys are spoiled. As we were once. Urban is among the best recruiters of all times. The man was a genius.

You can't answer the question, so instead you'll deflect and play these logical fallacies like a scummy defense lawyer for Aaron Hernandez.

So Chris Steele was a high risk recruit? Mmk.

Maybe ease up

Crass but UF recruiting questionable kids goes back a long time, and consistent with all their staffs.
The idea Mullen was 'stuck' with questionable personalities b/c of the last guy is rich.

If he wants to blame upperclassmen talent or lack of dev on last guy, that's a fair criticism. Blaming the last guy cuz Mullen can't keep his own top10 class together... is Ty Willingham territory.

Regardless, their biggest transfer's only questionable judgement is picking UF as 1 and USC as 2.

Everybody makes excuses for their own team, including us. Meanwhile there are always multiple sides to any story. I just don’t see the need to berate someone.

There's a lot of criticism one can make of death threat sharkman... Mullen's own class transferring as soon as they step foot on campus is not one of them.

If Day flops, you think we'll all be blaming Urban... or Day and staff?
I know who Ubet blamed after Urban. Seems like a pattern.

I think we'll blame all sorts of things, some right some wrong. Look to the Beck thread for seeking a bogeyman when there were so many other factors in the 15 season. Or someone who thought Tress was doing what the FBI needed him to do. Yeah, I'm quite sure that Buckeye Fans will seek and find blame in all sorts of erroneous places.

Beck was totally a bogeyman. Whatever apportionment of OC blame he bears, his record of destroying QBs is lengthy and consistent.

I'll play. First, you had no 'question' pending on the thread. And your comment about 'deflection' when in the same sentence you bash defense lawyers and reference Aaron Hernandez seems sort of - I dunno - not your best work. Second, I'm gonna have to question your self proclaimed status as competent arbiter of logical fallacies, as you fail to say what part of my post was illogical or a non sequitur. I did not affirm the consequent or deny the antecedent. But kettle logic on my brother.

We had a shit offense in Muschamp. That is the greatest sin of all. Tresselball will eventually get you gone from a fan base weaned on the Fun-n-Gun, no matter if you win the East. We are weird like that. The Shark Fucker was tasked with improving our offense and making it Spurrier/Urban exciting. Muschamp's offensive ranking went 105, 104, 115, 96. Shark boy took the 96 and went 112, 116. And the longer the season went, the worse the offenses got, in general. Mullen did not improve the ranking, but we did see improvement over the year. We scored 17 points in losses against UGA and S. Carolina in games 8 & 9, and , and scored 41 in our rivalry with FSU and tsun in games 12 and 13. That was mo' bettah. He damn sure better improve the offense in 2019.

We owned the least exciting offense to attract any stud offensive player for years. Add to that Shark Boy souring relationships through the state. So feel free to show me that Shark Boy was beloved of the HS coaches in our former Gator-centric recruiting grounds, or that relationships with HS coaches is over-rated. And, of course, the long fall from Urban to Champ to Shark Boy to Mullen is not all on Shark Boy. But he is reviled for tanking what good will we had left. And the last guy to leave is always the fall guy. True dat.
