True confession: After watching him coach up Colorado State, I thought the Gators hit a home run when they hired him.

Yea, me too. I knew he was a bit of a firebrand... but people also forget that they needed discipline after Muschamp... and he never really had the talent people think.
I doubt next guy is going to be any more succesful. Richt at Miami has people's attention. And FSU may be having a bad year... but recent results are still there. UF has been a dumpster fire for years.
They don't have the history people think either. For me, this is similar to Minnesota firing Glen Mason. Hiring Mullen seems like USC hiring Pete Carroll's old staff.

It would appear that McElwain's agent, Jimmy Sexton, is also Dan Mullen's agent. Sexton doesn't have a lot of incentive to put in work for an ex-coach that won't get another seven figure gig ever, especially if it's to Mullen's detriment.

That seems like a quick way to find yourself getting sued.

Is it though? I mean, on it's face, it seems unassailable. But...

Kelly's spread is, I think, a tad more finesse than it is power and he's not know for fielding great defenses or particularly "tough" teams. His ability to recruit is not necessarily a known quality either, considering the nature of his show cause and that he won't have Uncle Phil's money helping matters. That said, he's in a hotter recruiting area than he had in Oregon and he can clearly coach.

I tend to agree - the one knock on Oregon (TEMPO!!) while he was there was that they struggled against teams that weren't afraid to line up and punch them in the mouth. The rest of the PAC10 pretty much obliged and opted out of playing much defense, which allowed for some success. Stanford started playing STANFORD FOOTBALL and started giving Oregon some fits. For him to have success at UF, he's gonna needs to get a dang good defensive coordinator. Of course, after the past few seasons, UF fans might be satisfied with nothing more than 2-3 offensive TDs per game.
