I don't know if it applies to football, but the Baylor basketball players were allowed to transfer penalty-free after the tragedy they went through a couple of years ago.
Well.. I just don't think it applies to the situation at hand.. it's a little different.. I mean the kids weren't allowed to transfer free after cooper was fired.

I just read the docs on ncaa.org... including current laws and 2005 proposed... I couldn't find anything but sit out a year clause...

I believe Baylor fell under the rule "If you think someone on your team killed another teammate.. plus the coach has his own baggage " exception

Like NJ, I just read the NCAA's posted rules and they mention nothing of this new rule.

Here is a link to a USA Today article about the PROPOSED new rules governing transfers. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/2004-07-28-ncaa-rules_x.htm

Looks like new rules could be in place as soon as 05 if I am reading it right but not sure what they may be. I just don't see the NCAA moving that quick.

while i agree that the ncaa wont act that quickly.....

i would like to see a one-time exemption for kids to transfer after the coach that recruited them either left or was fired....

i know some say the kids go because of the school....but this will give them the chance to live out a clash song..."should i stay or should i go now"

Absolutely agree that kids should get a one time shot to move on if a coach quits/fired or they are put on probabtion for shit that happened before their signing ie a kid signs as a frosh and then the school gets hit with post season bans and schollie restrictions that pretty much mean he will never see a Bowl game. What Franchione did to those kids at Alabama cries out for this rule to be in place.

Changes to the rule that would allow a 'free' one time transfer are being considered, but no change has been put in place. The NCAA has always had the authority to grant exceptions to its own rules. That is what happened to the Baylor kids (God forbid any of them would be denied the opportunity to get away from that situation). They also let a kid go from Colorado to Houston (I believe) without penalty last year due to extenuating circumstances.

Wynn is listed on the Florida roster as a RS Soph. Any time a coach is fired I am sure a lot of kids consider a transfer. By pulling the plug early Florida has put itself in a position to have a replacement on board early. Who he is and what he says to the kids will have a lot to do with who might actually leave.

Fason is averaging 5.7 YPC at Florida. Wynn 3.7 in the same Offense running behind the same line. Regardless of what he did in HS that is not an exceptional recommendation. (Lydell Ross is averaging 3.6.)

All local sports radio has talked about this week was Ron Zook (and the world series). I heard nothing mentioned of Wynn wanting to transfer to OSU... my guess is that is just speculation at this point by the Gator fans that are in a state of panic right now.

Yes. I forget the school but one of the Georgia Tech players was on that team. They mentioned it Thursday night during the Virginia Tech/Georgia Tech game.
