Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

I have to disagree. While the 90's team had more offensive weapons, i believe a great defense helps make an offense look better, and we have not had that. And when you slip from great to just good, fans will demand accountability. I'm not saying Andrews should be fired, i'm saying i'm looking forward to new blood.

No coach can keep it going forever. Not Bowden, not Tressel, not Urban (i think). Kids will eventually stop connecting...it's the nature of college football. FSU has slipped in all phases (and i know many that want Fisher to take over for Bowden tomorrow). We have gone from Elite to somewhere below that, and that is not good enough for me...not with the talent in our home state. I'm positive after years of living here that Buckeye fans would have the same reaction against Heacock if the D was just good....oh wait, you guys want him fired after a single loss even if the D is top 5 EVERY year. So please don't set a double standard.

This is a topic for another thread..don't want to clutter LJ's recruiting thread so this is my last post on it.

But I disagree strongly. You can't count on a defense to win games when the offense can't move the ball and consistently turns it over. JB's offenses were 3 & out machines. The defense has remained aggressive, but you're going to get burned when the defense is on the field that long. I still love the schemes and aggressive front seven play. Secondary isn't what it used to be...at all.

It is amazing the talent tOSU continues to pump out on the defensive side of the ball. As of last year, since 2000, Tressel has had more players drafted than any other coach. Pretty remarkable.

I dunno, but it looks to me like three missed games won't cut it as a penalty. I am a Gator homer, but this looks like the dreaded lack of institutional control.

Maybe Bill can give us some Nole insight into the thinking over there about the liklihood of penalties.

Certainly up in that neighborhood.

The ACC last year, as a whole, was much more competitive top to bottom than the other BCS conferences. They had, what, ten bowl teams?
True, but the the reason it was competitive is because the entire conference was mediocre. No good teams, but no really bad teams either. I don't think anybody in the conference had fewer than four losses.

Exactly, those were not great teams, and that was not a great conference last year, especially since the conference champion (Va Tech), finished the regular season outside of the top 25.

Doesn't matter when it comes to SOS. Playing seven or eight 8-4 or 7-5 teams really boosts it...

Florida State wide receiver Taiwan Easterling has a ruptured Achilles - ESPN

Florida State wide receiver Taiwan Easterling ruptured his left Achilles
during winter conditioning drills this week and will miss spring practices,
a school spokesman confirmed today.

Easterling, whose eight starts last year were the most of any returning
receiver, will have surgery a week from Friday. Beyond missing spring
practices, which begin March 2, there is no timetable for Easterling's return.

The injury is a significant hit to an already depleted receiving corps.
The Seminoles will have to replace former receiver Preston Parker, who has
been dismissed from the team after his career was marred by legal issues,
and leading receiver Greg Carr, who has graduated.

Except they only played two four loss teams and three five loss team in conference the rest finished six-losses or worse, plus the two 1-aa teams and Colorado who had seven losses. I guess that Florida game must've carried some huge weight. I understand why it's ranked high, I just don't agree that it was really the eighth toughest schedule.

this really puts a gap between JoePa and Bobby as far as wins go....if JoePa thinks his lead is afe, he may call it quits after next season.

In turn, Bobby will try and hang around even longer than planned. Unforynately for Bobby, this academic scandal gives FSU adminastration a reason to force him out, even though he clearly had no hand in it. Bobby doesn't even know who is on the team anymore......he still refers to the starting RB as Amp Lee every year in Sunday recaps with Gene Deckerhoff.
