Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

Honestly I never realized that they were in such bad shape as a program. Now-a-days, not having decent facilities is a joke. They're USC, but without the nostalgia, donors, or history.
Imo, I'd compare them more to Texas and LSU. 2 teams living off of pockets of past glory. Produced a good number of top end collegiate and NFL talent, but it hasn't been very recent. In recruiting hotbeds, but can't cash in on all of the talent, as its constantly getting poached by the better teams. They won NCs recent enough to still puff out their chest and look down on some programs, but the elite programs don't even acknowledge them.

Young FSU fan sells lemonade to buy out Taggart

A Florida State booster and his young son are trying a unique tactic to wash out the Willie Taggart era from the Seminoles' football program.

Grayton Grant, 4, set up a "Free Willie" lemonade stand in Tallahassee on Sunday that charged $20 per cup to raise funds toward Taggart's $17 million buyout.

The effort raised $241 -- including $100 from one person -- that will be matched by Grayton's father, Daniel Grant. Grant plans to send a $482 check to Seminoles Boosters Inc. on Monday.

The check also includes a typed note signed by Grayton that says, "I am tired of losing football games and being made fun of at school for being a Seminole fan. At four, I am already starting to gravitate towards the color orange. You don't want that for an innocent kid like me."

Florida State is off to a 1-2 start after its 31-24 loss to No. 21 Virginia on Saturday. The Seminoles are 6-9 since Taggart took over at the start of last season and missed a bowl game in 2018 for the first time since 1981.

Daniel Grant says he and his son will continue to support the Seminoles no matter what, including Saturday's game against Louisville.

"We will be there screaming for them to beat Louisville and every Saturday after that for them to turn it around," Grant said, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. "We won't ever stop supporting them. It's in our blood.

"But, man, it gets tougher and tougher."

The Seminoles won a national championship in 2013. Florida State fans are softer than Michigan fans.

Coaching tree
Notable head coaches under whom Taggart has served:
  • Jack Harbaugh: Western Kentucky (1999–2002)
  • David Elson: Western Kentucky (2003–2006)
  • Jim Harbaugh: Stanford (2007–2009)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Taggart

Anyone think some of Taggert's problems at FSU may be caused by the "Harbaugh effect" in his coaching, i.e. Jim not necessarily Jack?

Taggert has a 53-59 record as head coach which isn't great; however, he did show an ability to resurrect a program. In 4 years at South Florida he went from 2-10 to 4-8 to 8-5 to 11-2. Regardless, I think you need to give a new coach at least 4 years (especially if he is showing improvement) to get "his players" on the team's roster, etc.

Per wikipedia, according to a story in Bleacher Report, Florida State had bottomed out in 2018 due in part to cultural problems dating from Fisher's tenure. Additionally, under Fisher's tenure, the FSU APR was the worst in the FBS, further complicating the rebuilding issues Taggart faced.

Now that you mention it, maybe we should do a Harbaugh coaching tree project over in Simple Jim's thread
