Former Auburn Player Stanley McClover

http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/ex-aub...-to-play-29592

Since the other thread is shut down for now, I put this here. Maybe it needs its own thread or to stay in the Auburn thread. Hell, maybe a "state of college football" thread in the Main College Football section.

Mods, please place appropriately.

I have absolutely no evidence that this is true, or that this is in anyway something that your coach knew or condoned. This is sorta dicey, as the Auburn part would normally be leaped upon as 100% true absent tOSU aspect of the story. But it will get/has national legs, and as there was (at least by me) some discussion of the national perception on the other thread, and as the perception can make some difference in the number and tone of stories and articles about your program (and maybe affect the minds of trustees) I posted this here as well as the old player thread.

Yeah - haters gonna hate. But being discussed and placed in the same category as Auburn as far as improper allegations is not a good PR exclamation mark to follow the recent troubles, be they true or not. Sucks. Will this give the NCAA more incentive to look at the program? Dunno. But I do know that the hue and cry and pointing fingers at Auburn will be followed by them pointing fingers at y'all, and saying "Them too!" How fans of programs other than Auburn and LSU and tOSU - and MSU will react is unfortunately very predictable.

So far McClover implicates OSU, LSU, Michigan State and Auburn.

"Somebody came to me, I don't even know this person and he was like, 'we would love for you to come to LSU and he gave me a handshake and it had five hundred dollars in there," McClover said in the HBO special, an advance copy of which was obtained by Sports by Brooks. "That's called a money handshake ... I grabbed it and I'm like, 'wow,' hell I thought ten dollars was a lot of money back then."

McClover told "Real Sports" that boosters from Auburn, Michigan State and Ohio State also arranged for him to get money and other inducements such as sexual services when he was being recruited in 2003. He originally committed to Ohio State but switched his commitment to Auburn after receiving cash that he said persuaded him to change his commitment. On that occasion, he said the cash was delivered in a bookbag. The amount was not disclosed.

You guy will never be able to rival Auburn in the trough if you put your minds to it and asked Bama for lessons. But the timing sucks bad. And it is a national story with the bigest of legs. Of course you aren't fucking Auburn, 07. But for the guys who have "haters gonna hate" as the second school motto, you have to admit that being thrown in the trough with Auburn - within weeks of the last bad news - is spectacularly unfortunate, even if you won't be able to swim with Auburn due to a lack of practice.

OK, well since you said "you have to admit it', I admit the national perception sucks.

Why do you feel it's necesssary to make numerous posts trying to convince us of that?

i don't understand the uproar over this. of course it went on in 2003. it still goes on now. this story is about auburn and the media being the media ran with the OSU part because of the rest of this shit. this isn't anything ground breaking. if a fan from another school tries to use this as ammo, you can laugh at them. this goes on at their school. this goes on in DII.

How much did HBO pay each of these guys for their story....

So a few years ago, we had a project that we were letting. Companies came from all over to court us for the work. So many opportunities existed for those selecting the consultant. Kickbacks, vacations, trips to the strip clubs, etc....

bribe happens....

I can tell you how this went down.....all the stories about it make it seem like wealthy booster picked Mcclover up with a limo chomping on a cigar throwing cash around and taking him to a brothel allowing him to pick the girl of his choice. The reality is his host (a football player) took him to a house party with football groupies and said you can have any of these women you want. He got laid by one of the co eds.....Tress, the Alum Andy Geiger, even the dirty booster had no idea this took place. I knew and know former players and this story is not news. All it does is embolden the perception. I dont know for sure how this went down but my scenario is the most likely.

It is my belief after 40 years of watching that other than actual NCAA [censored]age, that the reality within a program seldom leads to changes within a program, but instead it is outside the institution perception that leads to changes - the alumni movers and shakers reach a bad press tipping point and act. I've seen an almost universal disregard of the importance of outside perception from the fan base.

My point had more relevance in the thread where I originally posted it than it does here, to be sure.

Your scenario is what I envisioned when I read the story last night.
