Fox Sports 1 (at least its not ESPN)

Nah, I just read this on someone else's timeline and I was thinking to myself, "Do you really need to say this (the 'not our first show' part)." This is in addition to anything Bill Simmons has been saying about FOX.

And a lot of FOX Sports Radio affiliates just added BTN's daily radio show (airs during Fall), including Columbus 1230. Previously, no ESPN Radio affiliate would carry the BTN show (since BTN is FOX).

Aside from the fact that no self respecting Buckeye fan would watch anything other than a game telecast on espin, Fox Sports 1 is actually quite good in my opinion.
I'd watch Charissa Thompson read the dictionary, and I don't really need to hear Andy Roddick talking baseball, but those are things that I think will get ironed out. The highlight guys are great and I like the football discussion. The graphics are what they are in this day and age so those don't bother me that much.

Hey, it's not espin and that's enough for me. You reap what you sow dickheads.

I'd really like to see Fox make a run at the NHL coverage. The NHL needs to get their head out of their ass and get off of Vs. or whatever the hell channel they are on now is. Get out of that NBC contract and get some real coverage for your sport.

FOX/NBC have locked up NASCAR through 2024 ($8.2 billion)
NBC/Versus have locked up NHL through 2021 ($2 billion)
FOX/TBS have MLB postseason and premier weekly games through 2021 ($7 billion)
FOX/NBC/CBS have NFL and Super Bowl through 2022 ($22 billion)
CBS/TNT have NCAA Tournament through 2024 ($11 billion)
ESPN/TNT have NBA through 2015 ($7 billion)
ESPN has College Football Playoff through 2025 ($5.64 billion)

#1 - It is absolutely in their heads. And it should be. It's hard to maintain your position as the "World Wide Leader in sports" when the major events in all but one pro sport are on other networks.

#2 - If you need evidence the NCAA is run poorly, look how little they got for their TV rights from ESPN.

The NCAA has nothing to do with the TV rights for the college football playoff. The power conferences and bowls as a group (the zombie BCS) negotiated to sell those rights.

Also, the price partly reflects the size of the inventory that was being sold. Out of all of the things you listed it has the fewest live events and therefore the fewest advertising slots that can be sold.

The event on that list that the NCAA was actually in charge of selling (March Madness) brought in more than twice what the college football playoff did. Then again, they have more inventory to offer as part of the package.

If you think the TV deal for the college football playoff was poorly done then I wouldn't start hoping for the NCAA to be dissolved anytime soon. The people and interests who took that deal are the ones who would fill the vacuum if the NCAA were gone.

I still laugh that on the first thing ever broadcast on FOX Sports 1, FOX had Dave Revsine and the BTN crew on the show (since FOX partially owns BTN).

That trump card is probably going to be played when negotiations with the Big Ten kick up in 2014 or 2015 (FOX having interest in BTN). Who knows if it will work.

I hope they do something because while I have Fox Sports 1, I have never had BTN. Fucking Armstrong.

I didn't know that on Sundays 'FOX Sports Live' is playing it straight-up, so no panel (on the side). That's like old-school 'SportsCenter'.

One thing they should work on is a 6 p.m. broadcast, but that cuts into their daily NFL show (so that's probably not happening).

Man, I remember when Sportscenter used to do 2-3 minute highlights for each game, followed by a box score with 4-5 top performers for each team AND a couple general game notes AND who each team was playing next.

And for the bigger games, there'd be a 3-4 minute breakdown. Made a real easy being a sports fan back then. Now...I don't even know what they do. Scripted debates and fabricated drama passed off as "sports news" for an hour? I don't even watch anymore.

So pathetic for people that still use SC as their sports knowledge. Hope FS1 works out (though I don't currently even have cable, not worth it). Thank goodness for the internet and blogs (and BP).

I've watched it quite a bit over the last few days. It's a nice alternative to the cesspool that ESPN has become. They actually show sports outside of the mainstream (Moto GP, etc.) I have more hope for this network than I did for NBC Sports Network..

The only thing I think they could work on is toning down the amount of information on screen during Fox Sports Live. It's way too busy with both the ticker and side bar going at the same time.
