But if they scouted the bucks like they did the Canes that might not mean jack squat.

The Canes have one of the nation's best defenses with a back seven to die for. The only concern is with a run defense that was surprisingly soft last year allowing 155 yards per game. If that's tightened up, which it should be with one of Miami's best linebacking corps ever, this will be a killer with 11 players returning who started six or more games last year. That doesn't include superstar Devin Hester, who'll likely take over the full-time job at one of the corners. The offense has the potential to be more explosive than it was last year if Kyle Wright becomes the quarterback everyone has expected him to be. In other words, Miami should be slightly better than it was last year. A slightly better team wins the ACC title.
Relative strength: Linebacker Relative Weakness: Running back
Star of the team:
OT Eric Winston, Sr. Key game: November 5th at Virginia Tech
1. The defense should be good but it won't be on the level of the 01-03 squads. One of the big reasons, which happens to be the teams "strengths" is the LB core. THERE IS NO WAY ON GODS GREEN EARTH IS THIS ONE OF THE BEST UM LB CORPS EVER!
2. I'm more worried about Kyle Wright then I am about our RB situation. Moss is coming back 20 pounds lighter and we have freshman will push him all year long.
3. Anyone with half a brain can see that the UM program has come back down to earth. Last years team lost at UNC and then to Clemson at home the following week. Some people think that this means the ACC has much better competition then the Big East. However, if you follow the program it is easy to see that last years team wasn't that good. Still talented enough never to lose to bottom feeders like UNC and Clemson, but when you combine the fact we are no longer a NFL minor league team, along with inept game preperation (from the coach/coaches/players), there is no way this team is in the running for the NC.

heres what they got to say about the buckeyes........

5. Ohio State

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=caption></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>With nine starters returning on each side of the ball, the nation's best linebacking corps, one of the country's best 1-2 receiving punches in Santonio Holmes and Ted Ginn Jr., and size, speed and talent at every spot, there's no reason to believe the Buckeyes can't be in the mix for the Rose Bowl. The defense has the potential to be one of the nation's best if a second corner can emerge on the other side of Ashton Youboty and a pass rusher can start to wreak havoc on the offensive line. The offense will be better with a veteran front line and two good quarterbacks (Troy Smith and Justin Zwick) to lead the way.

I think their write-up on us, short as it is, is decent. While only alluding to the running back situation (as a weakness), they name our two other top weeknesses (or questions) nicely.

I agree that the Miami write-up is spot-off.

Foxsports gets these write-ups from cfbnews.com, they're just posting warmed-over stuff from the other website.

CFBnews.com generally does a very solid job of covering college football from a national perspective, but I agree that they're overrating tha Canes LB's.

Overating is an understatement of the year. Look I like Leon Williams but he coudn't hold Vilma's, Morgan's or Webster's jock.

I thought Iowa was supposed to be a preseason favorite but they have them at 18. September is going to be one good month of football. Lots of good early games.

CFBNews ranks teams based on how strong they think the teams are at this point in time. They supposedly aren't considering how the team will probably improve as the season goes on, or how weak/strong their schedule is. Iowa got pounded by Arizona State early last season, then ended up at #8 for the 3rd straight year.

They project Iowa to have a 9-2 record, losing at Ohio State and at Purdue, and beating MeatChicken in Iowa City. If they do that, they'll end up in the top 10 before they play their bowl game. They just don't expect them to play like a top-10 team in their first couple of games.

as a general rule of thumb pre season rankings don't mean jack squat. a teams name seems to be just as much a measuring stick of where they start out the season as their talent level.

I'm still not sold on Iowa for next season. It'll be interesting to see how Iowa performs now that they aren't actually sneaking up on anyone.

If people remember correctly it took a miracle pass for them to win last years' Citrus Bowl over an average LSU squad. They still have to prove that they can do it for a whole season before I am a believer, and the only time they did that was the year they didn't play OSU.

I agree with your point.

I also think it's har dto put OSU as #5 with a big question mark at RB. I think #5 is too generous.

Gee, that is one great compliment :roll2:

You sure its not El Bic, ObjectiveCane, or Bomb?

True. Normally this compliment would fall under the heading of "World's Tallest Midget" - but in this case I'm being sincere. I just hope Wolf doesn't tip off the existence of this site to mouth-breathers like 0177 and LinebackerNC.

The losses on their D-line will cost them. Roth and the other DE were animals last year. I see Iowa at 8-3.

Great point. Roth was a Will Smith type player (probably a little more consistent over his carreer), and we all see how badly to loss of Will affected our D line. You need good D lineman to keep the big hog's on the offensive line off of your backers.......and in Iowa's case they have some very good ones returning. A bad defensive line can make an otherwise splendid defense very average...........just reference back to OSU last year around midseason.
