Here is a free game for your pc. It's called frets of fire. It is very similar to guitar hero,and the torrents for the song list are absolutely massive(YOu have over a 1000 songs to choose to play,and the variety is excellent.(anything from the beatles to pantera(I know a lot of you guys like tool.There is 8-9 of their songs on there,that I can think of),and usually many songs by popular artists.There is a good chance if you have a favorite song by a popular artist it will be on the list...So instead of being stuck with whatever you have on the game system(guitar hero) you have a huge selection.

I AM RUNNING MINE ON A POS CELERON 2.0 WITH 256MBS OF RAM AND IT WORKS FINE.
Song list (torrents) You can edit the songs you want to download if you want to only pick and choose like I do. I use bitcomet but there are a lot of clients.

Note:"Unpack the files to ..\FretsOnFire\data\Songs, and run it. It will create a song.ogg in each folder if there isn't any. You will see the new songs added when you get to the song options of the game..VERY SIMPLE,and very addicting.

Also,keep in mind if you are just starting to play this game. You might not want to start with something like Jimi Hendrix "national anthem",because the options aren't always easy,medium,hard...Some of the faster paced songs (Pantera-cemetary gates) are ridiculous.


If this is inappropriate please delete. I know a lot of people like guitar hero or have wanted to at least try it..It's not exactly the same but pretty simliar.

I just copied the system requirements so people wouldn't have to ask.That is actually me typing and not someone else. Sorry for misleading anyone..I enjoy the game a lot,and since it's free it's worth a shot...I never thought i'd like guitar hero at all,but it grows on you rather quickly.

How's the game play? I have a wireless natural keyboard, am I going to be tossing it across my room because my keys are curved? I will probably just give it a try this weekend but was hoping someone had some feedback on that before I did, got frustrated and brought my PS2 Guitar in and smashed my computer with it.

I'm not sure but I'd bet the farm the better processor you have the better the gameplay will be. My computer isn't anything great i'm on right now. It plays ok...There is also a version of "guitar zero" that is supposed to be alright as well..I'll look that up soon. The timing can be frusterating,and you need to play it on "supaeasy" to get used to it first..The song list is what I enjoy the most about it. You can also edit to put your own songs on it(which is a cool feature imo)

I'm not sure about your keyboard timing,but you can always set ur keys to bigger keys (spacebar,)...My keyboard is sorta arched as well(but not wireless so hopefully someone can have some input on that I will ask around as well),but I find it's more a lack of focusing on my finger placement,and timing more then any of the keyboards fault.

Yea,basically like with GH..It'll take a little practice to get the timing,because it's a little off from guitar hero...Graphics aren't great on this,but it's a cool knockoff for nothing. I'm not that great at gh..I care barely beat anything on hard(on guitar hero),but this game seems pretty difficult at times. I just tried "cat scratch fever" by pantera and it wouldn't matter if I spent the rest of my life playing it ...No way

I am no god at GH, it's a fun game, but yeah, Hard mode is just a little beyond me. I am impressed with people who can do it, I have it for my PS2, I thought about getting it for my Wii because it's fun to play, but it doesn't seem worth it since I have both systems. Ever since I quit playing WoW my pc has been pretty much work from home 99% of the time, I have two monitors so one is the office, the other is usually here, it would be nice to actually start gaming on it again. I am downloading now.

hahahahahahhaha at your fine print..Thank you! Enjoy the game. You can always edit what songs from the torrents you want,because those files are some big boys(but the selection is FANTASTIC..Thats what I hate about gh..You're so limited)..

Checked it out last night, with the keyboard I think I am actually better off because the function keys are split out in such a way that my first 5 keys are all put together, the wireless didn't seem to cause any issues either, so overall I think this may be the setup for now. I will say this, took me a bit to get used to and the game's not the most stable thing on the planet.

The only problem I seem to have is sometimes it will shut down right before the song loads..It doesn't happen frequently but has..Same type of problem or something else? I set mine as a,s,d,f, and spacebar to make it easier on the 5 (purple I think? note)
