Alot of the deals today include multiple receivers. You pay like 4.99 a month extra if you need a second receiver. I have 2 receivers and hook up each one to 2 tv's. You can that watch different channels on either of the 2 receivers with any combination of the 4 tv's.
How do you split a receiver to show different programs on two TV's?

I've had DirectTV for several years and I like it far better than cable. I will probably upgrade to TiVO this year. The deals for new subscribers literally give away the equipment to get the monthly subscriber revenue.

I get my local channels on an antenna. If you have the NFL package you get the local channels for free during football season because of the local team blackout rules.

You have threee basic choices with all the programming options. Regular DirectTV. A Dual LNB dish with a TiVO receiver to get TiVO. A three LNB dish and HD receiver or TiVO for HD if you have an HD or HD ready TV. If I were buying one today I would probably go with the HD knowing I probably won't be able to resist getting an HD TV for much longer. The only HD equipment that is high right now is the HD TiVO. This is about a $1,000 because it new on the market. A regular HD receiver without the TiVO DVR is about $250.

Get DirecTV, Mili, and you'll never miss a game -- Buckeyes or NFL. You'll also see specialty games like Big 33 and the Army All-Stars. I have it and haven't missed a game I've wanted to see in five years.

Hang the expense, Mili, this is football we're talking about here!

Sorry for the confusion. I split each receiver to a 2nd tv. The 2 tv's that get used the most, each get their own receiver. The most used tv gets slit with the bedroom tv since they're never used at the same time. The second receiver is split b/w the 2 kids' tv's.

Coxew, I've sent you personal message to answer your quention several posts above.

Also, if buying Directv, always buy the dish that allows you to have two receivers (two cable comming from your dish) which operate completly independent from each other. One receiver for you to watch football etc and one for your spouse to Masterpiece theater etc.

Gentlemen, a big "mahalo" to all of you for your advise! After comparing DirectTV and DishNetwork, I think I'll try DishNetwork. Both offer GamePlan which is what I'm looking for, and DishNetwork's basic package of 60 channels with local channels (which otherwise is all I need) is $25 a month, not to mention there are more DirectTV retailers on Oahu than DishNetwork retailers, and there's a DirectTV retailer on Pearl Harbor (next to Hickam AFB, where I work). Thanks again, all!

Well, I just went to the DishNetwork concession over at the Pearl Harbor Exchange, and the dude there was totally fucking clueless. First, he didn't know for sure if they carried GamePlan, and when I assured him they do (and called someone to verify it) he claims I have to get their $300 30-inch dish to get GamePlan because it comes off a different satellite from their normal satellite, and the GamePlan bird can't be picked up in Hawaii adequately with their standard free dish. To top it off, they have a one-month backlog on installations. Fuck this...if I miss the Cincy game because of this shit, I'm going Xerox on someone.

Just called Oceanic Cable to see if any progress was made, and the representative didn't know, but she offered to contact the programming department (who are the ones negotiating with ESPN) and find out for me. She called back about five minutes later and said "it wasn't very good news" and that the programming folks don't think they'll finalize a deal before this weekend. So, it looks like I'll be going to EastSide Grill downtown (about a 30-minute drive) at 5:30 Saturday morning to see the game. At least the owner said I could hook up my DVD recorder to record the game.

Fuck ESPN.
