Future 5* Recruit: Jaylin Fleming

5th Grade Baller Jaylin Fleming is from Chicago. Since Fleming is only 5′1″ tall, and he generally plays with kids up to nearly twice his age, he needs to be quick, and he needs to have handles. Mad handles. Who better for a 5th grader to look up to than Derrick Rose from his hometown Chicago Bulls. I hear Derrick Rose has a decent handle of his own, right?

But Fleming is nothing like an average kid his age. He is puttin? in work on the hardwood. He lives, breathes, sleeps, and eats nothing but hoops. We thought we were hoop heads here at The Hoop Doctors, but we got nothing on this kids love for the game. And it?s starting to pay off already for him.

5th Grader Jaylin Fleming is a Mini Derrick Rose

What's embarrassing?

People take interest in phenoms...

The kid's good at what he does, especially for that age...

The fact that any adult puts this on the internet first off. How about they get him to be a kid and not coach him up at 9 or 10. I mean really....."I'm happy my parents are keeping me humble"..... Exactly what you'd expect out of a 10 year old. It's about as becoming as the crazy parents who enter their 8 year old daughters into beauty pageants but I guess they're honing their craft as well, and just doing what they're good at.

You know what...I'd even accept a special interest story on how good he is. But the coach being interviewed on how good he is, and how hard he works was over the top. The interview about his parents keeping him humble was just too much. I had to laugh at that point. I wonder if he even knows what it truly means to be humble at his early age??? Tough to tell when he's 9.

That's a pretty cynical approach don't you think?

When I was 10 I was playing baseball with 14/15 year olds...and I knew what it meant to be thankful for the gift that I had and to be humble about it. That's not to boast anything about myself, that's to say that I feel like there are a lot of kids that have that kind of talent at a young age...and if people around them recognize it and teach them what it means, good for them.

What do we know about this kid's life outside of what he's doing here? Maybe to him, all he wants to do is play ball. Does that mean his parents are stripping him of his childhood by supporting his use of his talent?

Sure it's a little over the top to expect that kind of perspective out of an average 10 year old...but the point here is that this kid is NOT average...that's where the comparison to the 8 year old pageant kids doesn't quite pan out. There's no skill or talent there that so significantly stands out amongst their "peers".

Why are we taking pot shots at this kid's parents that nobody here knows?

I agree that it is a bit sickening on how much praise/attention is being thrown on a 10 year old, but atleast he seems to have a decent mindset. Yeah, its weird seeing a 10 year old talking about staying humble and working hard, but its alot better than him being a cocky showoff who tries to embarrass other kids who arent as talented as he is.
