OHIO STATE ADDS HOME GAME IN 2017 AGAINST ARMY, 2019 AGAINST FLORIDA ATLANTIC

The Ohio State football team is scheduled to host Army in 2017 and Florida Atlantic in 2019, the school announced Tuesday.

The game against the Black Knights is set for Sept. 16, 2017, while the matchup against the Owls is slated for Aug. 31, 2019. Both are one-game agreements.

The Buckeyes also announced they had reached a mutual agreement with the University of Oklahoma to push their 2017 game up one week, from Sept. 16, 2017, to Sept. 9, 2017. That game is set to be played in Columbus, completing a home-and-home series with the Sooners that begins Sept. 17, 2016 in Norman, Okla.

Ohio State now just needs to fill one additional game slot for the 2018 season to have schedules complete through 2019.

I know that 2018 slot that remains open won't be filled by any SEC school. But damn I'd like to see a Georgia, Alabama, Florida, LSU or Auburn sign up for a single game (neutral site of course because that's how CFB makes the most from these "amateur" athletes)

I remember the years we played Oklahoma, Texas, and Notre Dame. We had the premiere non-conference game in the FBS; and got all the publicity, media hype, and/or TV time. That was great. However, in 2018 we already have at the Beavers in Columbus, the Horned Frogs in Ft Worth, and 9 conference games. Look for the other game to be an Ohio MAC school in Ohio Stadium.

THE MARTIN JARMOND MASTERPIECE: A LOOK AT HOW OHIO STATE'S FOOTBALL SCHEDULES COME TO FRUITION

58228_h_0.jpg,qitok=9K2MBw--.pagespeed.ce.OKGXOQKDRk.jpg

Nestled off Olentangy Road in the northern shadows of Ohio Stadium sits a building that towers above all others around it, a bit of a spectacle. It's aged brick rests in the Columbus sun, housing offices for some of the most powerful men in Ohio State athletics.

Vice President and Director of Athletics Gene Smith's office sits near the top of the Fawcett Center, stories above a restaurant, WOSU Public Media and hotel rooms. Near him are athletics communication personnel, but there's one on the 10th floor that holds perhaps the most important behind-the-scenes individual. At least when it comes to Buckeye football scheduling, anyways.

Meet Martin Jarmond, Executive Associate Athletics Director and Smith's right-hand man, who asked when he was hired in 2009 if he could be the man in charge of aligning who the Buckeyes line up against in future non-conference games.

"(Football scheduling) was something that was really important to me, that I said I really wanted to do and tackle and help him accomplish the vision he wants to accomplish," Jarmond told The Lantern last fall.

Ohio State to pay nearly $3 million to host Army, Florida Atlantic in football

A few weeks ago, Ohio State announced two new additions to their non-conference schedules, with a 2017 tilt against Army, and a 2019 matchup against Florida Atlantic University. Land-Grant Holy Land has obtained the actual contracts for both games, which include a few interesting tidbits.:

  • Getting a team to come to Ohio Stadium without a return trip isn't cheap, and it's becoming even less cheap. Ohio State will pay $1.4 million to FAU for their 2019 game. They're actually paying even more to Army for the 2017 matchup, with the Cadets getting $1.45 Million for their trip to Columbus.

Ohio State will face Army on Sept. 16, 2017, between home games against Oklahoma and UNLV. Ohio State will host Florida Atlantic on Aug. 31, 2019, to kick off the season, before home games against Cincinnati and TCU. Barring any cancelations of schedule adjustments, the Buckeyes do not have any open dates on their schedule until 2018, when they have one open spot, which will be a home game. The Buckeyes host Oregon State and travel to TCU that season, so expect whatever other game in 2018 to be a low major type program.

Perennial college football powers Ohio State and Tennessee will begin a two-game series in 2018, the schools announced today.

The first game of the series will take place Sept. 1, 2018, in Knoxville in the season opener for both teams that year. It will be followed by a Sept. 7, 2019, game at Columbus.

“Tennessee-Ohio State is a great natural match-up for two tradition-laden schools that are less than 400 miles apart,” said Steve Snapp, OSU associate athletic director. “Playing the Volunteers for the first time during the regular season will be a great series for our fans.”

Ohio State and Tennessee have met only once previously in football, a 20-14 Volunteer victory in the Florida Citrus Bowl following the 1995 season.

Yeah and they cheated!!!!

Ohio State's Cooper Charges Tennessee Used Illegal Cleats

Ohio State football coach John Cooper said he can prove that some Tennessee players in the Citrus Bowl wore cleats that were too long.

NCAA rules limit the length of cleats to one-half inch, but Cooper told the Columbus Dispatch in a story published Saturday that some of the Volunteers used three-quarter-inch cleats. In fact, he said he has one of the shoes worn in the game by Volunteers wide receiver Joey Kent.

He and his staff noticed the longer cleats during warmups and early in the game, won by Tennessee 20-14. He called it to the officials' attention, "but they didn't do anything about it," he said. "One guy told me they didn't have a ruler."
