Mitch Kupchek and Kobe had actually done something. Magic is good at basketball but unknown as a Director of Ops and quite frankly all I've seen of Jeanie Buss is she's very good at leaking stories to the press to create whatever narrative she wants. She seemed quite determined to crush all opposition even if she needed to stab them in the back to become the sole voice of the Lakers.

Kobe was an arrogant ball hog that couldnt let go with the fact he wasnt the player he used to be in his final years. Most stars didnt want to play with him because of that. Magic and Pelinka vibe much better with current players than the former guard. And say what you want about Jeanie, but she put the power in Magic and Rob Pelinka's hands, instead of being overly involved like Jim, when he had no clue what he was doing. Case in point the last hurrah of handing out huge contracts to Mozgov and Deng. Kupchek was a forced puppet of Jim's, not a bad operations guy, but his hands were tied.
