G Ronald Lewis (FOS Provence Basket - France)

:bow:

For the outstanding defense against Tucker throughout the 2nd half (except for that lay-up in the last minute) and for the sweet block on the last play of the game!

Snapped out of it big time today vs. tsun (5-7 FG's and 2-3 on 3's). He really stepped it up when they needed him most with Butler going cold and Oden on the bench in foul trouble.

FORUM: Who Is ... Ohio State's Ron Lewis? By Tracy Graven and Bill Ingram
for HOOPSWORLD.com

Mar 7, 2007, 21:06

There?s something to be said for a 14-game winning streak, and there?s something to be said for the being the top-ranked team. Ohio State can boast both of those impressive accomplishments, and Ron Lewis has had a hand in each of them. Of course, Greg Oden has had a little something to do with the team?s success, as well. That?s a story for a different day.

The senior shooting guard from Columbus, Ohio has the look of an NBA player, but the questions surrounding his willingness to commit himself to the defensive end of the court are pushing him to the second round of this summer?s NBA Draft. Lewis can score from anywhere on the court, is a solid finisher at the rim, and has absolutely no fear when it comes to hitting clutch shots and going right at the toughest defenders. These attributes could serve him well in an NBA that is constantly changing the rules to favor players who can take the ball to the rim off the dribble. Lewis could make a living at the free throw line.

Excellent game by Ron Lewis today! He attacked the basket and took the open shots within the offense today that he was given. I only recall one "bad" shot he took today. His defense looks like its much improved also. Keep it up Ron!

Lewis's struggles consider to be concern to me. I know it has been discussed quite often, but his numbers just astonish me with just how far they have dropped since the beginning of the season.

Through the first 9 games:
29.1 minutes; 16.8 ppg;
50-87 fgs (57.5%) - 9.67 attempts per game;
22-45 3's (48.9%) - 5 attempts per game;
28-42 2's (66.7%) - 4.67 attempts per game;
29-39 fts (74.4%) - 4.33 attempts per game;
51.7% of his shots were from three-point territory

Through the last 18 games:
27.0 minutes; 8.7 ppg;
45-138 fgs (32.6%!!!!) - 7.67 attempts per game;
23-89 3's (25.8%!!!!) - 4.94 attempts per game;
22-49 2's (44.9%) - 2.72 attempts per game;
44-59 fts (74.6%) - 3.28 attempts per game
64.5% of his shots were from three-point territory
***Only once in this stretch has he made more than half of his shots for the game, that being the Iowa game when he went 4-7.***

Almost everyone is saying that he needs to be more aggressive with the ball and needs to stop settling for the 3 point attempts, so these stats don't really tell us anything we don't already suspect, but I still find it interesting to see the actual figures.

I've been particularly hard on Lewis this season, but Ron's really picked it up here lately.

Last 6 games (since the quoted post):
31.3 minutes; 13.0 ppg;
23-58 fgs (39.66%) - 9.67 attempts per game;
7-19 3's (36.84%) - 3.17 attempts per game;
16-39 2's (41.03%) - 6.5 attempts per game;
25-34 fts (73.53%) - 5.67 attempts per game
Just 32.76% of his shots were from three-point territory. This is the most important number here, IMO.

The shooting percentages are still lower than would like, but he's being aggressive, drawing fouls, and if they were playing basketball instead of football, he'd probably being making double-digit trips to the free throw line every game. He's still not shooting as well as he was earlier in the seaon, but he's compensating for it by going to the rim rather than by taking more shots.

Keep up the great play, Ron!

He knows that he had to step his play up and he is a senior and he has been doing just that...

Credit to Ivan as well...

Way to call Bucky out on his quick judgment!

The stats you just provided show what I've been feeling for the last few weeks... Ron has stepped up his game and hopefully continues to do so through the tournament run.
