G Tayler Hill - 2 Time First team Big Ten (Washington Mystics)

I think the majority of us who follow women's basketball pretty closely were aware of Ohio State's interest in her. I thought the best quote from the article considering the fact that she is many towards Texas, Duke, or Ohio State was the following.

She would be a great get for Foster's program.

I know that OSU was interested in her, what's significant here is that to this point she has shown little or no interest in coming to Columbus. Apparently that has changed, and it would be huge to add a player of Tayler Hill's talent to the incoming class.

I thought that I would post this since Taylor Hill has expressed interest in Ohio State. Hopefully, in the coming year, she will have a thread of her own:)

Minneapolis South High School senior Tayler Hill, the Pioneer Press' girls basketball player of the year, was photographed at the high school in Minneapolis on Monday, March 16, 2009. (Pioneer Press: Richard Marshall) (Richard Marshall)On a gorgeous sunny day last week, Minneapolis South basketball sensation Tayler Hill basked in the warmth and the positive vibes that radiated from her school and its surroundings. She tried to reflect on a stellar five-year varsity career, but kept getting interrupted.

Fellow students, teachers and other school staff cruised past her with waves, hellos and high-fives. With her engaging smile and energetic personality, she continually returned replies.

"She has meant the world to our school,'' South activities director Mark Sanders said. "She has put us on the map. You are talking about one of the best basketball players in state history. We feel really blessed to have her as part of our school community. She has raised the bar of expectations in our school and community.''

Hill, who leaves the high school basketball court as Minnesota's all-time leading scorer, is the Pioneer Press girls basketball player of the year for the second consecutive season.

AN INCREDIBLE FAREWELL

Just when you think you've seen Hill at her finest, she wows you again. She bid adieu to her prep career with a dazzling 47-point performance Saturday night that powered the Tigers to the Class AAAA state championship over Centennial. Her will to win was present two nights earlier when she basically single-handedly rallied South from a 14-point halftime deficit to beat Eastview in the semifinals.

HIGHS AND LOWS

Every road to success is filled with peaks and valleys. Hill's
was no exception:

Highs

Being selected a McDonald's All-American last month

Setting the all-time Minnesota basketball (boys or girls) scoring record last month

Qualifying for the state tournament in four of her five seasons as a starter

Scoring 47 points to lead South to the Class AAAA championship Saturday night

Lows

Losing in the 2007 and '08 Class AAAA championship games
Controversy over her career scoring record to lay

SCORING QUESTIONS

No one disputes that Hill is Minnesota's all-time leading scorer or that she might be the best girls player in state history. What the Minnesota State High School League is reviewing is just how many points she did score. When South celebrated her breaking the scoring record last month, two Minnesota basketball historians who track the sport say South was about 100 points off on Hill's total and that the celebration was premature. "What I was thinking in my mind, people around me were saying it for me," Hill said. "It was frustrating to hear stuff being said about the record. I think it got blown out of proportion, and it didn't need to reach that level."

MOVING ON

Hill hears the question all the time: "Where are you going to play in college?" She is deciding between Duke, Texas, Marquette, Ohio State and Minnesota

quick blurb on PJ's little sister and her college choice...

Tayler Hill, the record-breaking basketball guard from Minneapolis South, said Tuesday there still is no front-runner for her choice of college but that she hopes to decide in a week.

"I've gone back and forth," Hill said. "It's tough to decide. There are pros and cons."

Her final three are the Gophers, Ohio State and Texas. She said Minnesota has as good a chance as the others.

Ohio State, Hill said, initially became a contender because her brother, P.J., was a junior starter for the Buckeyes this season.

"But then it went beyond that," she said.

Hill has eliminated Duke and Marquette from her final choices.

Minneapolis South guard Tayler Hill to announce her college choice
South star will announce college choice

Minneapolis South senior guard Tayler Hill is finally at peace.

It took nearly five years.

Hill, one of the nation's top girls basketball recruits, has made her college choice but won't divulge it until today, during a news conference in the school's gymnasium where she became a high school legend the past five years.

She has chosen a unique way to reveal her choice. Placed somewhere in the stands will be nine students hiding letters. When it comes time, Hill will cue her buddies, who will stand and flip their letters.

Spelled out will be "Longhorns" (Texas' nickname), "Minnesota" or "Ohio State."

"Keeping it in is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do,'' Hill said Wednesday while fidgeting with a large ring she received for being a McDonald's All-American. "There are times when I've wanted to (bust) out and tell someone, anyone. But telling everyone at once is the right thing for me.''

Hill, the nation's No. 12-ranked recruit and second-best shooting guard, has Ohio State, the University of Texas and the University of Minnesota as her finalists. Hill, regarded as perhaps Minnesota's best girls player ever, gives no clue to which school will receive good news today.

She appeared to drop a hint when she said, "I really don't like huge campuses, but if it is contained in a small area, I can get along with that pretty well.''

Ohio State has the largest enrollment of any college or university in the country, with 53,715 students. Minnesota is No. 4 at 51,141, and Texas is ranked sixth with 50,006.

Tayler Hill, the Minneapolis South girls' basketball star who rewrote the Minnesota record book, played in four state tournaments and finished her storied high school career with a state championship, will end one of the longest recruiting sagas in state history today by announcing that she will play college basketball at Ohio State.

A news conference is scheduled to begin in the South High School gymnasium at 2 p.m.

Family played a role in Hill's decision. Her brother P.J. Hill, a graduate of Minneapolis North, recently completed his junior season on the Buckeyes men's basketball team. But the choice was not easy. The other schools on her final list were Minnesota, Duke, Marquette and Texas.

Glad Tayler decided to wear S&G in college. I enjoyed watching the gals play down the stretch and with Prahalis, Lavender and the other returnees adding Hill with a good outside game is great news, it's good to be a Buckeye

Women's basketball: Buckeyes land top guard Hill
Recruit's brother also plays for OSU

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The Ohio State women's basketball team hit what amounted to a buzzer-beating recruiting shot yesterday by landing Minneapolis South guard Tayler Hill, the top guard remaining in the 2009 class.

The sister of Ohio State men's point guard P.J. Hill, she chose the Buckeyes over Texas and Minnesota.

A McDonald's All-American and two-time Minnesota player of the year, Hill scored 47 points in leading South to a 68-61 victory over Centennial this season in the state 5-A championship game.

Bret McCormick of All Star Girls Report called it a major signing for coach Jim Foster and the Buckeyes, who won a fifth consecutive Big Ten championship this season and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

McCormick said Hill, 5 feet 10, will fit nicely with point guard Samantha Prahalis, a sophomore next season, and All-America center Jantel Lavender, who will be a junior.

"Those are three future WNBA first-round picks," said McCormick, who said that Maryland and North Carolina tried but failed to enter the picture late in the recruiting process.

I watched Tayler Hill in two high school games (taped). I saw her in 6 or 7 summer league games, officiated but, obviously, not coached. Not many observations, I agree, and I am certainly no expert but these were some of my impressions. She is listed as 5'10" but looks to be 5'11", very long arms, can run like a deer and has an excellent vertical. She passes and handles incredibly well for high school....but this is not high school and she must improve in both these areas if she is going to take playing time away from any of the current starters. Her first step is very quick and she loves to slash to the rim....I like this. While doing this, however, she needs to also work on a jump-stop pull-up jumper and not just rely on getting fouled. She starts her standing 3 point shot a little low on her chest, but always seems to get it off. She can get very hot with this shot...other times, not. OSU's is very much a ball-reversal, passing offense with high-low feeds and kick-outs. She must learn when to make one more pass and when to shoot. Her defense must improve quickly if she expects more playing time than the 5 to 10 minutes a game she will get at first.

Thanks for the player profile on Hill. What does her handles look like?

Even Tayler Hill has some learning to do on the court
Former Minneapolis South star is expanding her game at Ohio State.
By KENT YOUNGBLOOD, Star Tribune
Last update: February 14, 2010

Tayler Hill arrived at Ohio State last fall with a lot of experience. She had played five years of varsity basketball at Minneapolis South, reaching the state tournament four times and winning one. By the time she finished one of the most dominant careers in this state's high school basketball history, she had scored 3,888 points.

So what did she have to learn? A lot.

"It has been such a change from high school," Hill said last week by phone, just days before her college debut in her home state. Hill, one of the nation's top recruits, chose Ohio State from a long line of schools, including the Gophers. On Sunday, Ohio State, which has clinched at least a tie for an unprecedented sixth consecutive Big Ten title, will play the Gophers at Williams Arena.

Such a change? The 5-10 Hill has been a starter for coach Jim Foster from the beginning. But when you join a program with great players all around you, your role is going to change a bit.

"In high school, I basically had the ball in my hands all the time,'' Hill said.

Hill's record total is in: 3,888

Last update: February 14, 2010

There never was a question that former Minneapolis South guard Tayler Hill was the state's all-time leading scorer in basketball. It was just a matter of exactly how many points she scored throughout her career.

That total is now official. Her career number stands at 3,888 points, the Minnesota State High School League said in a news release Saturday.

Now an Ohio State freshman guard, Hill led Minneapolis South to the Class 4A state championship in 2009.

Her point total was verified from a variety of sources, including the school's scorebooks, media reports and from several independent sources who tracked her five-year varsity career.
