Jahmyr Gibbs (RB Detroit Lions)

We're talking about the men's 100 meters, right? 7 guys were under 9.99, Tyson Gay was DQ'd, and Asafa Powell finished 8th because there were only 8 guys in the final. He pulled up due to a groin injury, so trying to make his time in that event sound like it's world class speed in very disingenuous. He could have slowed down even more and finished in 8th place with a time of 20 seconds.

To add to this, that 11.99 was the slowest time run at the 2012 olympics by .8 seconds. The second slowest was 11.19 by an athlete from Afghanistan. 11.64 wouldn't win a competitive 8th grade track meet lol.

All of that said, Gibbs looks plenty fast in pads, and I really hope we land him. I think he can come in and contribute immediately

Nobody here including me has said they don’t want him.

nobody has been able to explain the discrepancy between what you see on the fb field and his track times.

it makes no sense.

11.64 even as a junior is slow for a D1 tb let alone and elite one.

I think some of us are just trying to figure out why would we care about his track times when there is football tape that shows he’s plenty fast. Running track isn’t just running straight ahead. Does he have good form? A good coach? Was he injured during track season? Does he focus on other events and had to fill in for someone else?

What ever the case may be, sign him up.

Ok, it makes no sense. Who cares, the kid isn’t coming to OSU to run track, he would play RB, and he could be a very good one.

Well thought out and logical.
I posit this could be a partial explanation.
I do feel track times for skill players are instructive.
Time to move on.

Something I noticed and seems hard to reconcile.
On the film the the kid looks electric.
Comparable to Alvin Kamara.
Burst, speed for days.

Yet his PR in the 100 is 11.64.
Alvin ran a 11.34. Also, after Bama/Tennessee perfected his build, he ran a 4.56 40 at the combine.

Welp that lasted 24 hours.

"One of the most sought after running backs in the late signing period is Dalton (Ga.) running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who told 247Sports that he will indeed make a midweek official visit to LSU on Jan. 22. Ohio State will host him Jan. 17, Florida will have him on campus right after LSU on Jan. 24 while Georgia Tech, where he's been committed since May, will host him on Jan. 31."
