I don't know why anyone would ever lave Dragonstone. Fuck being king of da seven kingdoms, Stannis.......I'd rather just lay low in my bad ass island castle.
Instead, Stannis spent all those years grumbling about being stuck with Dragonstone while Renly had Storm's End. There's nothing so unfair as being slighted with a giant castle.

Maybe it's just my [Mark May]ty knees but uh...fuck dragonstone and it's infinite stairs. That [Mark May] is highly impractical. Damn 4 hr walk to get the mail. No thanks
You can send the dragons, if you don't mind crispy news.

You do know that you got people who go pick up the newspaper and the mail and the bottles from the milkman and bring them back to you while you're luxuriating on that badass throne? You do understand this, right?

It is funny that all the people that hold impenetrable castles with superior defenses on islands are so eager to head for the mainland where the army of the undead is headed.

I'd be perfectly content on Dragonstone or Pyke for 80 years being The God of Tits and Wine.

Considering the average life expectancy of a Westerosi, I'd say Walder Frey already won the Game of Thrones.

Did they showcase it like that when Stannis was there?

No not really. They had a couple outside shots of Dragonstone but it was always very dark barely visible. HBO Go has a Q&A with the creators about the premier and they were saying they didn't have the CGI in Season 1 and 2 to truly show off Dragonstone like they wanted to so they decided to hold off until Dany's return.

They have shown that war room though on a couple of occasions with Stannis but again it was always a very dark scene that didn't show off the stonework and whatnot.

Viewers: Why are some season 6 episodes only 49 minutes long?
Dan & Dave: Fuck you. Here's a two minute montage of Sam scrubbing bed pans.

OK. Did anyone else start humming the bass line to Pink Floyd's Money during that scene, or was that just me?

Throw in some upbeat Laino music and I would swear they brought in Vince Gilligan for that clip alone.

I found the Arya/Lannister soldier scene interesting (beyond the Ed Sheeran thing).

I was expecting her to kill them the entire time- but now I think it might have been used to reestablush her humanity a little bit after murdering a room full of 80 people, some of whom were likely not involved in the red wedding beyond being related to the individuals responsible- and cheering about it when prompted.

You show that scene, and then show her with some Lannister soldiers being nice and talking about their families- she spares them and it shows she still has somewhat of a grasp on who deserves to be murdered by her and who doesn't. Although the whole "soldiers at war" thing still blurs the line in interesting morally ambiguous ways.

Now that I've said that, the opening scene next week will be Arya walking away from a murdered campsite of Lannister soldiers...

It's an interesting moral question I think- would Arya be justified in murdering those soldiers or would it move her character too far towards the Stannis "I'm a bit of an obsessive monster who has lost my grasp on humanity in singular pursuit of a goal" realm.

I am finding that I enjoy the show much more now that they are completely outside of following the books.

I thought the show was extremely strong at the start before somewhat losing its way in the middle thanks to being tied to some complex plot lines that were obviously better executed via lots and lots of writing that can't be easily condensed into show form, with the sand snake/Dorne story line being the most obvious example.

I thought it was a strong start to the season with good scenes for Arya (see spoilers above), the Hound (the whole grave digging thing probably being a nod to a popular fan theory from the books), Jaime/Cersei in the map room (Jaime talking shit about the iron born was also really good... they're starting to show a crack in that relationship in ways I was hoping for all last season), Euron in the throne room came across as more of a threat/wildcard than the previous season, the reestablishment of dragon stone was cool as mentioned, and the Jon/Sansa dialogue was good not great.

The Sam stuff is pretty weak (one of the lingering legacies of being tied to the books), but hopefully they're leading to a decent payoff with that.

They're making Sansa stupid. How many people does Jon Snow have to tell about Hardhome and the Walkers to get them to realize there is only one enemy that matters anymore?

That's not entirely true. Cercie and Danerious, Denarious, however the fuck you spell her name don't know and wouldn't believe Jon if he told them about the white walkers. Both those bitches are looking to kill the shit out of some Starks. It's hard to fight the White walkers if you're part of their zombie army.

Daenerys (had to google it) doesn't know or care yet about the Starks ... She knows her some Lannisters and wants their crispy heads on pikes.

Unless you are totally incompetent or Sansa is just stupid, you clearly have the conversation about the Umber/Karstark succession plan before you are in front of the room full of people announcing the decision.

They're probably setting up a friction between the two for Littlefinger to exploit--- but Sansa falling for any of his crap would be highly disappointing for the character given what she's been through and what she has learned- as she frequently talks about, even.

On the other hand, Littlefinger being unceremoniously offed would be somewhat of an anti-climactic end for him.

Perhaps his plotting will be revealed (back to the original book) and Sansa will exact her revenge on him in some interesting way- for all of his brilliant maneuvering, the final piece of his plan depends on the love of Sansa, and he is rejected just like Caetlyn did back when Brandon Stark kicked his ass in a dual- which was also an uncharacteristically stupid decision by him motivated by love (or at least lust).

Jon has no reason to listen to him, Yohn Royce hates him, and Sansa hates him and seems fully aware of his nature and desires--- I see no reason for Baelish to have any success in the north unless he pulls off something brilliant and totally unexpected- or Sansa does something incredibly stupid.
