Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 34, Miami of Ohio 14 (final)

Uh, anyone who thinks Tressel overlooks team has not been following our team since he became coach. The close games we've had with OOC opponents under his tenure (Cincinnati in 2002, SDSU, BGSU, and NCSU in 2003, Marshall in 2004), were the result of the other team playing their game of the year while we were out of sync (Cincy and SDSU) or letting a team back in it after getting a good lead (BGSU, NCSU, and Marshall).

That's my point exactly. Why did we play out of sync? You have to consider the possibility that they took a 'patsy ooc' game less seriously than a larger game down the road.

Maybe you should remember the schedules before making such a claim. Here's the five close OOC games we've had in the last three seasons which I listed in my previous post:

2002:
Cincinnati (week before the home game against Indiana game)

2003:
San Diego State (week before the home game against NC State)
NC State (week before the home game against Bowling Green)
Bowling Green (week before the home game against Northwestern)

2004:
Marshall (week before away game at NC State)

No way were we looking ahead to Indiana in 2002, nor Bowling Green or Northwestern in 2003. In the NC State game, we were up 24-7 in the fourth before a bad fumble call gave NC State gthe ball on our 17 and put them back into the game. Almost the same thing the next week against Bowling Green, where we again had a 24-7 lead in the fourth. The Marshall game saw us up 21-7 at the half. We did now overlook or start slow against those teams...we simply failed to put them away. The only game out of them all that you possibly see anything resembling "overlooking" would've been the San Diego State game, in which we came off of a 28-9 pounding of Washington in the season opening night game. I think it was more of a let-down rather than looking past them toward NC State.

Mili's dead on. We aren't going to overlook a team for the home opener, it's just not gonna happen. If Miami were the sandwich game between Texas and Iowa I could go along with it, but not a home opener.

The one "schedule" problem game we have seen under Tress is the little problem of night games after a bye week, but thats already under discussion on the PSU game thread.

They have yet to come out flat for an opener under Tress and I don't see that starting this year from all the reports we are hearing regarding stellar SR leadership.

Okay, me and 5 other bucks are going to be coming in from Boston/New York and we need this game to be a big one (it is the game we got with our Alumni tix- all our last names are l-h).

Anyway, if any of you buckeyeplanet kids have a tailgate thing going on let us know, please. . .

Did anyone else get their alumni tix yet?

Gotta Watch Out

Miami has a LOT of boys who dreamt of playing for OSU, but ended up at MU. The Bucks need to be READY for this game because I can guarantee that the Redhawks have this as their focus game for the YEAR!

Obviously the Bucks can slam dunk the Redhawks.

But this situation is rife for an upset!

Please don't take Miami lightly.
I would love to see a blowout to where the backups are coming in during the 3rd quarter, and getting some PT.
Yep, that would be the ideal situation. The scrimage this past weekend looked good with some nice plays by QB--two of them. Need to see them in the S & G game next week. Might show a bit more effort with a crowd.

I worry about QB readiness for the opener. We don't exactly start strong out of the gate in August!

Somehow, with the effort we hear coming from this team this spring, I don't see a chance in Hell we overlook anyone. The guys are just too focused and aware of the chances they lost last year to not have a great year this year.
I'm sure they are also aware by now of instate problems of the past and will be prepared................ :wink2:

I'm with Flask on this one.... I'm actually going to predict that Miami doesn't know ANYTHING about our running game (which they shouldn't) and that they'll put too much into our recievers. In doing so I see our running game going for 200+ like we did against Cincy. I CAN'T WAIT!

Anyone losing sleep over this just remember the "ripe for an upset" and "looking ahead to Texas" ideas are more media driven cliche's than anything else.

The simple cold fact of the matter is that a team with significantly less talent is coming to Columbus for our home opener. They are a one dimensional offense with no running game. Now please tell me the last time that particular recipie worked for anybody.

If you want to draw historical comparisons to this game look no further than 2004 vs UC in the home opener. This one will resemble it very closely.

Well I hope we don't come out flat in our opener this year! Or I'll end up owing Shakers a bar stool and a beer glass... cuz no doubt I'll break something...
Or you could be like my friend:

Against Cincinnati in '02: "If we lose, my dad's gonna make me transfer to Duke!"

Against Marshall in '04: "If we lose, I'm transferring to Duke!"

I hope Tressel plays a little mindgame with Tejas:

Stick with good ol' fashioned Tressel ball for the Miami game, and show a little grinding action. Next week... WHAM we break out the spread offense and just SHOCK the secondary, forcing ole Mack to make a few unsuccessful halftime adjustments and bring his team to tears.

Wake me when season starts.
