Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 38, Youngstown St. 6 (final)

Being a born-and-raised Youngstowner, when they first announced this game I swore I'd be at it. Since we now have three--count 'em, three--games now scheduled with YSU, I think I'll go to the UW game instead...

There's 3 with YSU? Where have I been?

Christ, this is stupid. Remember when Auburn went undefeated but didn't play in the national championship game? Part of the argument was, "Don't play The Citadel, then."

Now that we have three games with this team, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to us. Playing YSU once is bad enough, scheduling three games against them is pathetic.

Irrelevant now that it's a 12 game schedule. Everyone in the country will be doing it...

Maybe you should know what's happening before you shoot your mouth off. YSU is in the process of moving up to I-A (target date was, and still may be, 2008). So, it's probable that the only game against YSU as a I-AA team will be this season...the 2008 and 2010 games will be no different than playing any other in-state team.

Also, Auburn only played 11 regular season games in 2004 (the year they played The Citadel and got left out of the NC game). Now everyone plays 12 and the games against I-AA teams count.

I agree, we shouldn't be scheduling any 1AA teams. It significantly reduces your strengh of schedule. In addition, it's a no-win game. If you beat them (you were supposed to); if you lose to them, which probably won't happen, (you look real bad). Surely we could gave gotten some other division 1A BCS conference or mid-major team to come in here to play us without wanting a return game. If Jim Tressel wants to help out Youngstown State then he should just write them a check; and not schedule their football team here to play a regular season game.

With the new rules and schedule, games against 1AA don't matter anymore. There is nothing to worry about here...

Playing a I-AA playoff semi-finalist is worse than playing a 5-7 MAC team? :roll1:

If playing a I-AA team hurts under the new 12-game format, then why did Penn State play YSU last year, and why is Nebraska scheduling them for 2009? By the way, isn't SOS no longer a factor in the BCS formula?

Seems like a good thing to do... With Youngstown State moving to 1A, where else would they have the opportunity for the revenue that this/these games will generate. Hell, the least that the AD can do!! Further, scheduling Army was also a class move.
