Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 38, Youngstown St. 6 (final)

These folks automatically think that playing a I-AA team for the 12th game significantly hurts our standing...there's no "could" in their statements.

Okay. I agree, I didn't read all the posts prior to mine. I do however think that you taking the complete opposite stance in this is just as wrong.

So if 3 teams, including Ohio State, go undefeated and we are the only school to play a I-AA team it will be irrelevent?

Yeah, okay. :roll2:

Also, I would imagine there are quite a few "pollsters" who aren't the most educated in all areas of college football.

People are just brining up a "what if" scenerio that COULD be relevent. COULD be, no matter how much you vehemently disagree.

It doesn't even have to be 3 teams. If one team is no-doubt in and Ohio State is vying with another team to get that last spot, the 1-AA game could be brought up if the other team plays all 1-A.

Also, playing a 1-AA instead of a 1-A hurts you in the computer polls.

Our schedule is ridiculously weak... If we go undefeated and get snubbed by the BCS I'll have no issue whatsoever... Last year's title game performance and this schedule make it very difficult for Ohio St. to be in NC consideration even if they go 12-0..

Ok - so what does Ohio State have to do to make it to the BCS championship game? Normally, winning all of their games is what is needed, but you're implying that they need to win MORE than all of their games. How is that possible?

Guys we're getting ahead of ourselves here. If the Buckeyes win 12 games next regular season, they'll be in the title game........ Every year we have this discussion about "who will be left out?", yet it always has a way of working itself out for the teams that are undefeated (minus Auburn).

No, but they better hope their arent two other undefeated teams out there... or there isnt a top SEC team ranked near the top with 1 loss... I think the human pollsters are gonna be down on the B10 for at least a year following our performance on the biggest stage...

Some got that. Those that did are talking hypotheticals. In this instance, what if THREE, or more, teams make it and we are the only ones with a I-AA team on the docket?

I "got it" awhile ago. Some were taking "offense" to you stating there was now way it would affect us in that scenerio and that is completely and utterly false. It CAN. Will it? That is another question.

It won't...period. I'll repeat...it won't. Can't, won't. Just like all the yayhoos saying before last season that it was possible for us to play Michigan in the national title game some day. Well, last year was the best possible chance for that to happen (#2 Michigan playing consensus #1 Ohio State to within 3 points at Ohio State for their only loss, with no other major undeafted teams) and yet it didn't happen. Now, if this were the old 11-game season where few teams were playing I-AA teams, then this could definitely have a potential impact. But right now, with everyone given a 12th game and being "allowed" to play a I-AA team, it will have zero--ZERO--impact on us reaching the title game...the 12th game is essentially a "freebie".

Making the same statement, only more drawn out, doesn't make it any more true.

We'll just agree to disagree.
