I have not read the boards...too exhausted to. I just got back from Bloomington. So here's my take on things before I even know what everyone else thought with TV or whatever.

1. Same ol' same ol' as far as Ohio State fans taking over the stadium. It may have been 50/50 at kickoff, but by the time the game was over, it seemed all the Indiana fans had left and it was all Ohio State. The radio called Bloomington a western suburb of Columbus for the day. The Indiana fans that sat behind us, right smack in the middle of the Ohio State section (or one of the many), kept saying how embaressed they were.

2. The officiating was horrible. When the fuck did we start calling penalties for hitting a guy on a kickoff return? The ball is still live. You are tought to have your head on a swivle, find somebody, and hit them. It's not Ohio State's fault the guy gave up cuz Ginn is so fast. You always see guys getting hit. It's not like it was the QB on a turnover or something, it was a kickoff coverage guy. He's out there to get hit. It is absolutly REDICULOUS that Ginn's return didn't stand. The refs kept him from returning a punt and a kickoff in the same game, and I can't remember if that's ever been done before for Ohio State or not.

3. Speaking of Ted Ginn. FINALLY!!! Maybe it was because Indiana is so bad, or maybe it's because he's seeing the field better...but he is finally looking good on special teams.

4. The offense looked good. The interception, I thought was BS. To me it looked like (Holmes I think it was) got interfered with...it was right in front of our seats. If he wasn't knocked to the ground, with the game he was playing, I think that's a TD. And then as far as the strip of Ginn...how long can you hold a guy up before the whistle is blown?? I was SURE the play was dead. I couldn't believe they didn't call forward progress. WHAT A JOKE!!!!

5. The defense. HOLY CRAP! That's all I have to say. Indiana isn't great on offense, but they haven't been bad this year either. We made them look like a high school team out there. The only way they got yards was when Powers closed his eyes before he got hit, and threw the ball up for grabs, and somehow they made a great catch. And they were so banged up by the 2nd half, that I don't remember them having ANY positive plays that half. I mean...what an AMAZING 2nd half for the Ohio State defense. I mean...wow! I think that is the best defensive performance i've ever seen out of Ohio State...no matter who the opposition is.

6. 41-10...and this game was close for awhile, even though it really shouldn't have been. The outcome was never in doubt, everybody knew that...but it was good to see the Buckeyes actually blow out a team for once. COMPLETE DOMINATION. We are on fire going into the Minnesota game, against a team that hasn't played in 2 weeks and lost in the worst way last week. The Buckeyes are starting to roll!

GO BUCKS...

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- All Ohio State wanted Saturday was a win on the road. The Buckeyes accomplished much more.

Troy Smith ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, the Buckeyes had a big game and a suffocating defense never gave Indiana a chance as No. 14 Ohio State produced its most lopsided win of the season, 41-10, to stay close in the muddled Big Ten title chase.
``It's sure nice to go on the road and get a win,'' Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel said. ``I thought our kids played hard, and I thought our defensive staff did a good job disguising what they were doing.''

It was only the second Big Ten road victory for the Buckeyes (5-2, 3-1) since November 2003, a span of seven games.

But, of course, this one came in Bloomington where the Hoosiers are usually hospitable.

From the Indiana band playing the Buckeyes fight song during pregame warmups, to the reverberating chants of ``O-H-I-O'' throughout the game to the loud postgame celebration, Ohio State seemed right at home in Memorial Stadium where it hasn't lost since 1988.

If the Hoosiers (4-3, 1-3) were looking for what went wrong, they could start with the stat sheet.

Ohio State rushed for 240 yards and had 478 yards in offense.

Indiana rushed for a meager 42, nearly half of that in the final minutes when the game was already decided, and finished with 137 yards. The Hoosiers also had more punts (10) than first downs (eight).

``It's been a long time since I've been on the receiving end of a game like that,'' Indiana coach Terry Hoeppner said. ``You've got to give credit to Ohio State. But, obviously, we didn't help. We were very ineffective on offense.''

No matter what the Hoosiers tried, the Buckeyes seemingly had an answer.
Antonio Pittman and Smith hurt Indiana on the ground, sometimes calling plays perfectly behind the Hoosiers' shifting defensive line.

Pittman carried 26 times for 133 yards. Smith ran 12 times for 55 yards, scored on runs of 1 and 23 yards and completed 14-of-23 for 226 yards, including a 23-yard TD pass to Santonio Holmes. Holmes had five catches for 104 yards.

The combination wore down a Hoosiers defense that was fatigued by halftime.

Indiana also struggled against Ohio State's swarming defense.

Blake Powers, who entered the game with Indiana's single-season record of 20 TD passes, was 13-of-29 for 72 yards and failed to throw a touchdown for the first time all year. Receiver James Hardy, who ranked among the national leaders in receptions and yards receiving, managed only two catches for 27 yards although he appeared to be hobbled by a leg injury.

With Powers and Hardy out of sync, the Hoosiers went nowhere.

``We've got a long way to go,'' Hoeppner said. ``I'm not pointing fingers, but we didn't make a lot of plays, and we didn't create an atmosphere that we needed to create. We've got a long way to go in both areas. The Buckeyes don't come back here for a long while, and when they do, it needs to be a completely different atmosphere.''

Ohio State, however, was far from perfect.

Despite converting an Indiana fumble and a short punt into first-half touchdowns, the Buckeyes blew several chances to take control.

Smith was intercepted at the goal line, and a personal foul penalty nullified Ted Ginn Jr.'s 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first half.

But the Hoosiers problems proved more costly. Twice, Indiana started drives inside the Ohio State 40 and failed to score points. Its only touchdown came when linebacker John Pannozzo ripped the ball away from Ginn in the third quarter and scored on a 57-yard fumble return.

Ohio State matched that when Brandon Mitchell intercepted an underthrown ball intended for Hardy and ran it back 57 yards to make it 31-10.

``The defense led the day today,'' Smith said. ``To give up 137 yards in offense is great.''

The Buckeyes took a 17-3 halftime lead, and still led 17-10 after Pannozzo's fumble return.

Then came Ohio State's quick knockout punch. Smith scored on a 23-yard run. That was followed by Mitchell's interception return, and Ginn closed out the scoring with a 62-yard punt return. ``It was good balance, I'm sure we're going to find a whole lot, though, that we wish were better at,'' Tressel said.

I saw the same thing today. I really thought they played dirty football, haven't seen that since the last Northwestern game.
On the opening kickoff of the 2nd half, (the 2nd one, after the first one in which the whistle blew...stupid refs) a Indiana player ran into the pile where Ginn was, and just sucker punched Ginn. It was right in front of us. Ginn was pissed, but didn't hit back. That is not Coach Hoeppner...his teams played good football at Miami. I mean, maybe Indiana was frustrated...but geez...they were going to lose no matter what, they just aren't good enough to run with tOSU.

3. Speaking of Ted Ginn. FINALLY!!! Maybe it was because Indiana is so bad, or maybe it's because he's seeing the field better...but he is finally looking good on special teams.

i think ginn's problem this year has been confidence adn trying to do to much. he tried too hard against texas and caught a case of the dropsies along with the rest of the team. he has had absolutely 0 confidence since then. not trying to work him back into the offense until his return against iowa that was called back didn't help either.

4. The offense looked good. The interception, I thought was BS. To me it looked like (Holmes I think it was) got interfered with...it was right in front of our seats.

i tivo'd the game and went back and watched that play in particular a few times. looked to me like tressel/smith went to the well 1 too many times. we burned them on that slant twice prior to that play. the cb was playing inside technique and the ball was literally thrown right to him. all he had to do was take 1 step forward and outside of magically becoming antwon winfield there wasn't much holmes could even do. imo, smith should have seen that the corner was in perfect position to jump all over that route and should have either thrown elsewhere or audibled out of the play. the corner of the endzone was veeeeeeeery open.

i agree on your assesement of the d. i also think the 02 vrs. 05 d comparisons are becoming very relevant. imo, if you lump the lb's in with the d line they are equal to 05 possibly being slightly better. the guy who impressed me the most today without question was jenkins. i was pretty cranky over his performance against msu with all the missed tackles. but he was always in the right position even in that game. he's gonna be a good one me thinks :).

Ripping off helmets, no penality?

I'm pissed with the continued ripping off of helmets of our players! Why are the refs letting this continue? This is happening every friggin week , now!
Are the refs really not seeing it or is it not in the rule book?
And the refs were truly horrible today! :pissed:

Agreed about Jenkins. I was ticked against MSU. But he's big, quick, not afraid to hit, and he's getting better. Mili made the call before the season that he was going to be a good one. We'll have our best corner combo next season with he and AY since Springs and Plummer.

Jenkins had a big game...but I think the guy that I thought played really well was Kudla. He always plays well, but I think he deserves credit again for another well played game....our corners are studs. We are going to have a solid secondary for many years to come.

Holmes got knocked down on the interception! Should have been an easy call! Refs missed it. BS call on Ginn's first run back. Strange call. Just a horror show of bad calls, no calls and not taking control of late hits . And those damn helmet rip offs!

I guess booth review isn't a cure for bad ref work!

:pissed: But great game guys!

I agree about Kudla and also thought Patterson had a solid game, whenever they ran the stunt Kudla had an open shot at the QB. Ithink the Dl is improving every week. Especially when Carp movesin at end.

Def a good win, even if it was just IU. Jenkins, I think, is gonna be a very talented player in the future. So Ginn didnt play both ways? Any surprise? Its good to see him finally get rollin. And what was even better was to see him go up to whoever (i dont even remember) got flaged on his kickoff return and condole him..I really like the way Troy is taken over as if its his team. To see him laughing on the sidelines and clapping hands w/ the other guys is good to see.

I guess you can't catch the ball off your shoes!

If you're talking about the Indiana guy who had his catch disallowed after reply, after re-watching the game I would have to agree that's the only reason to reverse the original call of completion. If there is such a rule that you can't have a completion touch your foot while the foot is on the ground, then the ref should've said so in his explanation.
