This is one of my favorite Simpsons scenes ever! Prof Frink picks up sarcasm on his machine, fat Comicbook guy says "ooohhhh, a sarcasm detector. That's real useful." The detector beeps feverishly for a second or two and then explodes from overload.

Awesome.

10. Ok - a lot of this isn't going to work. But I still come out with guns drawn and ready to fire at the drop of a hat.

I'll bet this will be the game plan for the Golden Flashes at least until our offense puts up 21 quick points in the first three drives and the defense silences their guns with 3 and outs, interceptions, and sacks. They should watch the Northwestern film for a preview of the game they are getting ready to play just to prepare. Then watch the film on the Purdue game for the defense they are getting ready to face, just to prepare. Then Dies irae - "the day of Wrath" will unfold.

Dies irae, dies illa Solvet saeclum in favilla, teste Toddus cum Beanie...

What the fuck does "The air, the airy Soviet scums in flavor, then Todd comes on Beanie" mean?!

Day of wrath and terror looming!
Heaven and earth to ash consuming,
Todd's word and Beanie's truth foredooming!

Dies Irae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

It's Latin not Russian, but I like your translation better. We'll have no coming on the field either! Slippery hands could be our downfall.

You say this as if borrowing a Rhino and pulling birds out of your shoes (your #3 and #5 plans) would be expected by the OSU coaching staff.

My point is that after using the rhinocerous and the drunk magician, you have to continue to do unexpected things. Although, maybe Ohio State will expect the unexpected. When that happens, Kent State ought to start running up the middle or something.

If you're Kent State, what strategy do you use this weekend? Do you give any serious consideration to trying to win, or do you just hope for a respectible game?

Ok - All goofy "Zurpness" aside, how about someone answer the question? Do you try to beat Ohio State? If so, what's your strategy? Or do you just have your players go out and "enjoy the atmosphere?"

Personally, I don't like the "looking for a respectable game" approach. But I'd like to hear other opinions on it.

The time of season is a big key. Season openers I'd be more apt to toughen my guys up by going balls to the wall and showing them they could compete with an OSU.

Mid season I say fuck that, here's my second and third stringers, keep my 1st team in tact and give us our check. Back to the business at hand next week of trying to win our conference.

Good point. The win or loss against Ohio State isn't going to affect your season, much. Winning out, you'll probably break into the top-25. But it isn't going to get you any more than the Motor City Bowl, or whatever the MAC champions get. Of course, beating Ohio State can give your team a huge boost in confidence and momentum for those in-conference games.

I still say I try to win the game.

I think you have to play it by ear. Boise State's win in the Fiesta Bowl was the blueprint. Go out relaxed and play hard and do what you do. As the game goes on if you find your team in that unexpected position, then you go all in with your playcalling. If you really have a chance to do something monumental that's one thing. However if I'm not gonna win the game or be in it down to the last possession, I wouldn't want to put something on film that I might be able to use in a game later in the season that could win the conference, beat a rival or get the team into a bowl.

Are you allowed to quote yourself? Is that the cyber-world's equivalent to talking to yourself? Zurp, you need to get out more.

Anyways, how would you feel if your coach mailed in a game like that??? Do you honestly think that Kent players would accept that? It would be a complete humiliation to the first team players, and something they would be ashamed of for the rest of their lives.

Year 2062
KSU player from 2007 team: Come here Timmy, let me tell you about the time when I played football for Kent State.
Timmy: Okay, Grandpa. Did you get to play the Buckeyes??? I love the Buckeyes.
Grandpa: Yeah, but our coach was too much of a FUCKING WIMP TO TRY TO BEAT THE BUCKEYES!!!! And this was the year when upsets were common in college football. I mean, Michigan lost to a Div 1-AA team.
Timmy: Yeah, but Michigan loses to 1-AA teams all the time.
Grandpa: Not back then. This was before they sucked ass every year.
Timmy: Oh. So, why didn't your coach try to win?
Grandpa: Weren't you listening to your grandfather? Because he was a gutless pile of donkey shit and a fucking wimp. I'll never forgive him for it. As a matter of fact, I go and piss on his grave every October 13th in memory of the day he made me sit out of the opportunity of a lifetime. I hope he's rotting in hell.

These players grew up Buckeye fans and want to show everyone at the shoe that they should have been recruited by the best team in the state. You think the coach will actually make them miss this opportunity??? It's absolutely insane to expect the first team will miss the game of their lives. I'd put all of my vBucks on the starts actually starting the game.

Now, if (or once) things get out of hand, I'd expect the starters to sit in order to avoid injury.
