Game Thread Game Ten: Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 17 (final)

Ohio State: Wisconsin?

Whenever I try to envision how the Bucks will break out this season, I can't help but see the style of last year's Wisconsin team with a better, more opportunistic defense. The pundits put them and Michigan as pre-season favorites, but can't we potentially do what Wisky does with the power run game better than them?

Badgers RB Smith suspended for violating discipline policy

MADISON, Wis. -- Sophomore running back Lance Smith has been suspended from the Wisconsin football team.

Athletic director Barry Alvarez said Smith violated the athletic department's student-athlete discipline policy. The school did not offer any details, citing privacy laws.

Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said Smith got into a dispute with his girlfriend after midnight Saturday over how much money she owed him for cab fare. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Smith is suspended from competition and practice pending the availability of further information regarding his case, the school said.

Smith, a 19-year-old from Warren, Ohio, was the Badgers' second-leading rusher last season with 345 yards on 95 carries and five touchdowns. He will remain on official squad lists and can continue to receive support services in the sports medicine facility, the academic support center and the weight training room.

I just don't see it happening. This is a team that has repeatedly outplayed Michigan and Ohio State only to lose most of the games. Having to play both teams back to back will break them if nothing else does.

I'm perhaps overly optomistic this season. I think the Bucks will be just fine against Wisconsin and Penn State. Washington is still recovering from the Neuheisal fiasco... and if Willingham couldn't win at Notre Dame what made anyone think he could win in Seattle?

I wasn't this optomistic when the class of 08 took off for the NFL, but everyother program has problems and I think this team will be ready when November 17 rolls around. It's another 50 day wait till the bowls that has me most concerned. Not good for the Bucks, not good for the league.

Wisconsin won't be ignored this preseason
Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

It might be hard to ignore Wisconsin this season.
Last year the Badgers were left off the preseason top-25 polls. It rubbed many of the players the wrong way.
"When we weren't ranked last year, that was fueling the fire for us to grow stronger," said Jason Chapman, Wisconsin's junior defensive tackle. "I don't want people to think that since we're ranked that we're going to let up. We're going to keep the same mentality we did last year."

Badgers RB Smith reinstated to team in time for first practice

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin running back Lance Smith, who was charged with battery and disorderly conduct last month, was reinstated to the team Monday just before the first practice of the season.

The sophomore was suspended after being arrested by Madison police after an alleged dispute with his girlfriend on July 14. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez lifted the ban an hour before practice.

Smith has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges that he pushed down his girlfriend during an argument over a cab fare, refused to let her leave his apartment and took her money and shoes.

Anyone have any ideas how teams like Wisky do it?

Can you imagine the uproar and gnashing of teeth if OSU landed only 6 athletes rated 4 stars are better in any given class? Wisky has only landed six in their prior FOUR classes combined.

Yet here they are highly rated nationally and in the Big Ten. And it isn't just the cyclical thing where a large number of seniors come together at the right moment. Wisky only has 5 Seniors among their starting 22.

I wont argue they may be a bit overrated - but they ARE good.

Is it the Cheese?
