Game Thread Game Ten: Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 17 (final)

according to a thread on ozone, abc/espn will not release the time of the game until next monday. they are exercising one of their 6-day options for selections (rather than releasing the kickoff time today). what this likely means is that they are waiting to see how ohio state and/or wisconsin fare this weekend to determine whether the game should be placed in a time slot for greater viewership and better marketing. moreover, this likely means that the illinois game will be shown on the big ten network.

So are we talking a possible primetime game? I know there aren't many good games that week.

bielema has gone on record to claim that he will not permit an away night game. the only abc/espn game already slated for a 3:00 or 3:30 kickoff is the ucla/arizona game. the 8:00 game is still up in the air, but, again, bielema would be against it. heck, ohio state is generally against home night games. the only way that the wisky game would be played at night is if ohio state and wisky win, and abc/espn is somehow able to nudge both programs to change their current stances.

i'm seeing 3:30 as being most likely.

why would the illinois game be on the big ten network instead of ABC?

OSU will have one conference game on BTN. It won't be the Michigan game. The only games that haven't already been picked up by ABC/ESPN are Wisconsin and Illinois. One of those games will be on BTN. With Illinois recent losses, that game may be less likely to be chose by ABC and, therefore, would likely be available to BTN.

BuckeyeXtra - Ohio State notebook: Wells sees flaws; Big Ten sees otherwise

Scroll down.

Wouldn't it be nuts if this game didn't end up on ESPN or ABC?

As for Illinois' recent losses, I expect them to be 7-3 going into the game against Ohio State, with wins over Ball State and Northwestern in the next two weeks.

Hence, I doubt the game won't be on ABC or ESPN at the least.

Illinois will probably finish the regular season 8-4.

I'm hoping for a 3:30 kickoff for this one. I just can't see it being played at noon, but then again........who knows? I just get the feeling that Wisconsin is going to give the Bucks a good game..... They are a team that is eventually going to "click", they aren't as bad as they are playing this season.

Maybe, but then I think of Tressel. NU in '04 and PSU in '05 pissed him off and he has unleashed his fury on them since then. Wiscy is victim #3.

Yep. It's downright scary how this team is coming together a full year ahead of schedule. I, and I think most of us, expected a very good team, but these guys look really hungry. I think we stomp Wiscy Saturday. I also think it may have been more a case of Barry Alverez having tOSU's number than anything else. If Hill can't go or is hobbled, it's gonna be ugly early.

In the past month, we have seen the University of Wisconsin football team get pasted by a pair of nationally-ranked opponents (at the time), walk all over glorified mid-major and completely dismantle a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten program.
So which edition of the Badgers was for real?
The answer will probably come in six days when No. 25 (for now) Wisconsin (7-2, 3-2 Big Ten) travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeye, who waxed No. 24 Penn State, 37-17 Saturday in Happy Valley (the same venue that saw the Nittany Lions expose the already-maligned UW defense with a 38-7 victory).
The Badgers will have a hack of a fight on their hands, but there are a few things working in their favor.

Continued......

Return of the run: When Barry Alvarez won three Big Ten Championships; there was nothing to think about when it came to the Badgers' game plan. Alvarez basically handed opposing coaches his playbook during the pregame handshakes and than dared teams to stop his running attack. P.J. Hill has shown flashes of brilliance as well as lapses in ability. His early exit Saturday could prove problematic (he was hindered by injury down the stretch last season), but backup Lance Smith (15 carries for 79 yards, two touchdowns) may be coming into his own. An improved running game can also take the pressure of fifth-year senior quarterback Tyler Donovan, who has struggled during the last two games (23-40 for 235 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions).

Wow. This guy writes about UW for a living and doesn't seem to know that Smith isn't allowed to travel for road games. Am I missing something? Did the courts allow him to travel for this game or something?

This is the second article I have read that claims UW is on a roll after beating Northern Illinois and Indiana. This guy then brings up how their QB has struggled in those two games, PJ Hill has been nicked up but its all ok because they guy who won't play saturday has been coming into his own.

Brilliant.

OK, you can leave my brain now... :wink2:
