Game Thread Game Ten: Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 17 (final)

You really didn't. I said on any given Saturday Wisconsin's defense could be better than PSU's, and that result proves they're capable. I never made a declaration such as: "we allowed 31 and they allowed 3....therefore we're better and we'll shut down OSU". That would be the transitive property.
i was merely pointing out your statement about the value of the transitive property as it relates to comparing football teams. of course it doesn't work all the time. regardless, comparing teams, especially in the polls, is largely based on the transitive property. and, yes, the transitive property was being employed in both of your posts.

The point is that on a given Saturday, UW's defense is capable of playing MUCH better than PSU's if they play to their potential.

Ahh I see. Forget the first 8 games and look at what they did last week vs Indiana, thats the real UW type of thing?

All I know is your team has gone on the road 3 times and managed to win only once, that by a FG over UNLV. I also know that we have two common opponents so far, MSU and PSU, and that we have fared far better against both than you have.

Both teams have played cupcake schedules but we've done what a good team is supposed to do vs bad teams, you gusy have managed to lose to two of them and struggle with several more.

Anything can happen on any given day but you acting like we are being overconfident for no reason is absurd.

Defenders are starting to gain confidence and gel it appears. Jack Ikegwuonu has resembled the uber stud the previous year in locking down James Hardy. He's no punk like the unbelievably overrated Justin King (I've been saying that for a couple years). Be sure that one side of the field will be closed for OSU's business. Will the rest of the defense rise to the occasion? I'm not psychic, but I'd imagine they will be intense and focused. I'm expecting OSU to at least be contained. The key is the defensive line keeping OSU's offensive line off Bucky's LB's so they are free to make plays, instead of being trampled by a horse like Chris Wells. The Badgers have dipped into their defensive line depth and size a little more, so I think that's another reason for the improvement in addition to the confidence builders. Boekman impressed me against PSU, so he should be able to take advantage of our weaker corner Allen Langford. Also, the safeties of the Badgers still might be very suspect (Carter on the tackling side, and Pleasant probably both), so if they can get that deep, it might mean a couple big plays. But I don't know if there will be numerous territorial marches like against PSU.

Offensively, Tyler Donovan has regressed dramatically pretty much every game since his starting debut in '06. He showed special awareness making improvisational plays outside of the pocket and checking down multiple reads. Most of this season he panics if his first read is covered. If the safeties don't bite on play action, he doesn't adjust, and often makes the deep throw regardless. Otherwise he'll scramble out of the pocket solely to run the football, and isn't even aware enough to ever throw the ball away and avoid the 4 yard loss. Allen Evridge would seemingly give us a better chance because he has a rocket arm (although erratic), is smarter, and probably faster. However, Bielema is very stubborn and I can almost assure you Donovan will be playing Sunday unless he creates an enormous early deficit. Jenkins could exploit his girl arm. Hill should be near 100 percent I'd imagine. He only bruised his foot. I simulated the injury after the game by running and kicking my fridge, in order to gauge his availability next Saturday. Already a day later I can run full speed without issues. Hopefully he can channel Ron Dayne at the Shoe in '99 stomping mudholes in Buckeyes arses. If not, the experiment of rushing each fullback looked promising. This offensive line isn't appreciably inferior to those Rose Bowl year teams. New England's GM believes that rs frosh Gabe "Hebrew Horse" Carimi will be a future top NFL prospect, but afterall what does he know. Hubbard returned 2 weeks ago and is near 100 percent. Beckum is Beckum. Glenville's own K-Jeff has been a pleasant surprise. Daven Jones looks promising as a playmaker, but is probably under-utilized

The reason you guys rolled Indiana is just like you said.. Your #1 CB is much better than King from Penn State, and locking down hardy is the only thing that really needs to be done to stop that offense. However, we will throw it at your #1 CB it dont' matter. Robo/Hartline/Small or whoever aren't just going to go deep they'll do screens and all the routes in the book. It'll be interesting to see how Robo does in this game against Jack (whateverthe fuck). However if your other corner and two safties are weak then I assure you you'll have some problems there. Also the d-line for wisconsin is going to struggle getting pressure as have all teams so far so it'll force the DB's to have to stick with their mans' that much longer...

As for the Wisconsin offense I think this is where the bigger mismatch will be.. The way P.J Hill was walkin to the locker room didn't look pretty at all, and while I expect him to play I don't think he'll be 80% even. Add that with a missing Lance Smith, no swan, a struggling QB and it doesn't look good going into a defense like ours. We have not 1,2, but 3 great corners, and both safties are outstanding in the pass/run coverage.

If there's yards to be gained against this defense its running a type of stretch play and using the cutback as penn state did. However with Hill gimpy I don't think that'll be much of an option. I think this game will be a good game but i think we start fast again and never really leave the game in doubt. 31-13 bucks

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State will meet Wisconsin on Saturday in a game that will impact the Big Ten race and national-title picture, but most fans won't get to see the action from their favorite recliner.
OSU announced Sunday that the game will be broadcast at noon by the Big Ten Network, which isn't available to basic-cable subscribers in the Miami Valley.

After Penn State rout, Wisconsin comes to Columbus

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. The task only gets tougher for No. 1 Ohio State.

While the top-ranked Buckeyes looked awfully good in a 37-17 rout Saturday night of Penn State, potential pitfalls await in their quest for a second straight berth in the national title game.

Wisconsin visits Columbus on Saturday, followed by a Nov. 10 visit from Illinois and its potent offense.

I probably wouldn't count on Ohio State committing five turnovers either...

Maybe I hate Time Warner more:biggrin:

Not me...they think "everyone should have the BTN at no cost" yet they are going to charge Time Warner extra for it? They should make it free if they are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. Beyond that, I got to watch nearly every game before the BTN, so why should I want the BTN to exist? Time Warner is greedy too, however, I hate the BTN way more.

to support the Big Ten and tOSU. How much more does it cost? DirecTV folks gave me BTN and NFL network as a part of their $39.99 line up. No extra charge. It didn't cost me anything. Ofcourse they got my business instead of TW.
