Game Thread Game Two: Ohio State 20, Akron 2 (Final)

Does it matter when the defense dominates like they did?

71 yards given up
3 first downs given up
0 pts allowed

I'm very happy the defense played the way they did!

I'm not saying it mattered in this game. It turned out to be all academic. However, I wanted to refute a point that it was all some kind of master plan to throw interceptions. And it might not be a great sign for the future. The Buckeyes are going to have to score some points in the future because not all offenses are going to be on the Akron prowess level. Also, mistakes like that can/will cost OSU if they continue against teams who are good enough to take advantage.

All INT's were made in the first half, cleaned it up in the 2nd.. Fumbles were rather annoying though! I NEED BIG TEN NETWORK! I don't like listening to the game on the radio!

I disagree with the last statement made too.. The defense stepped up all day, rather than get down about the offenses inability to score, they went out and got Akron to go 3 and out 13 straight times?

Yes...our defense was fast, swarming...and laying out some hits...

I watched the Okie game on split screen for a bit...and there are a lot of similarities...

but one big difference...

Tressel's a better coach than Bob Poops...

Oh...and Oregon is about to go up 3-0 on MichiSuck...
I don't know about looking like the '02 defense though...we played Akron for crying out loud...

I'll hold my thoughts until we play a good team...

again...no offense to Akwrong fans...

My advice as an outsider would be; if it's inevitable your QB will make mistakes, you might want to opt for the superior playmaker in Henton. You can develop him for the future in the process too. The QB situation this year reminds me of Georgia in '06 when they started the season playing a program QB instead of Matt Stafford to begin the season.

A game manager who makes mistakes is not an optimum combination. My name's Sean Glennon hello to you.

Watch out for Washington. That's a deceptively difficult game in my opinion. They were one of my sleeper teams before the year because of several reasons. One, they lost an exorbitant amount of close games in '06. Two, I believe they return numerous starters. And finally, Jake Locker is wonderboy. They did nothing in week 1 to dissuade me from my prediction about their team.

point of order: in 2002 we hung half a hundred on the MAC teams.

We did struggle like all hell against Cinci, though.

Now, I don't think this team (from anything I've seen/read/heard so far) can be compared to the '02 Buckeyes, but at the same time I'm not writing them off because of a lousy performance today and a so-so performance last week.

Here's what I do remember...Oregon just scoring on an 85 yard TD pass to go up 10-7....bwahahahahahahaha...

I take that back...make it 11-7...boy...Michigan's D sucks...

As for OSU...let's all just agree with this fact...the offense needs to improve...and hold onto the damn ball...

the Defense...just needs to be...

I guess I'm in the minority but I was extremely pleased. Sure, the turnovers have to be corrected immediately but Boeckman, despite his 2 picks, looked very good. He has poise and a great arm. There is no doubt in my mind he will be a star. I don't know who Bernini was watching.

The o-line improved but still needs some work.

Beanie is a manchild, tossing aside DB's like they're toddlers.

As for the D. The Silver Bullets are back! The defense is straight up nasty. I can't say enough about how they performed. The only knock is the dropped int's.

I firmly believe we will be the best all-around team in the Big-10 by the Penn State game. The future is bright, ladies and gentleman...and tibor.

Hey everyone I got to see this game.... Here's some of the things I saw

1. The defense who cares if it was Akron absoultly is one of the best in the nation. Yes this was Akron, and they treated them like they were Akron. holding ANY team to 50 yards of offense is spectacular! The defensive line was unblockable, the pass protection was great, and the linebackers! Man oh man the linebackers did everything. Created pressure, made sure tackles, and laid the wood! (where has Freeman been)

2. Second I don't understand our offense at all. First off Where was the 5 wide formations and all the different formations? There was no variety, there was still a lack of fire on the offensive side. I was refreshed to finally see beanie running extreamly hard and was stiff arming tacklers like no ones business.

3. The thing that really ticks me off about this game is how we handled the QB situation. You have a QB in Todd Boeckman who absolutly NEEDS game reps and you take reps away and give them to Robbie S.?? WTF is that.. The team finally gets into an offensive Rythme and what do we do? Throw in the backup QB and mess the whole thing up again. Totally mind boggling to me. Another thing about the QB situation is I seriously doubt that Robbie is 4 series better than A. Henton. The way robbie refuses to stay in the pocket is dumbfounding. If Tressel wants someone to run around and create we will put in Henton, and while we shouldn't be playing a back up QB period right now I think Henton should atleast get the same amount of series as Robbie. There's no way there's that much differnce between the two.

Greenies for you. I'm in complete agreement. Todd is clearly the starter and has a road game coming up so why not give him every series until it's a complete blowout?

JMO what we saw today was more of the learning process. I saw a marked difference between the first and 2nd halves.
There is still along way to go before the O is ready to take on a quality team's D but we have room to grow.

Our center is new. He's had a hard time making the right calls during the first 6 quarters of the year, but he started coming around in the second half... just like some people here predicted.

Our QB is new. He's had a hard time with various aspects of the game, but he started coming around in the second half... just like some people predicted.

The receivers are new, as far as being the #1, 2 and 3 options. They've had a hard time, but they're coming around... just like some people here predicted.

Our TB missed much of Spring and Fall practice. He started coming around in the second half... just like some people predicted.

The offense is progressing. They'll have a much stiffer test next week; as will the defense. But you know what? They'll learn, they'll progress, they'll be fine.

There will be tense moments against the Huskies. But I believe the Bucks will come through in the end.

Thanks oregonbuckeye... It just funny and comical sometimes because we have an inexperienced QB no matter which QB we play so why not make 1 of them as seasoned as we can? I agree in not embarressing teams 79-10 but I don't like when we go so easy on teams. Tressel and the coaching staff is so worried about showing people up that I think it really hurts our growth as not only an offense but also a team as well. We could've put 2 more Td's up in the second half and really built some steam going into WU but we decided to pack it in instead. I should be use to this by now with Tressel but its frustrating because it makes games look so close when in reality if people watched would realize the game was never in doubt.
