Sorry, but I don't recall anyone--anyone--saying that last year. We may have been favored going into the game, but no one was saying Florida didn't belong on the same field as us.
Obviously the first of those scenarios is not remotely comparable to the latter two. Many thought that Miami was better or significantly better than OSU in '02. And many thought that OSU was better or significantly better than UF in '06. But no one ever thought that those teams were not, fundamentally and structurally, on the same level. Everyone thought that about UM and Appalachian State. Everyone still does, and rightly so. That's precisely why an otherwise relatively unimportant non-conference game became a huge story. If UF had upset OSU in the preseason of '06, or if OSU had upset Miami in the preseason of '02, it wouldn't have been that big a deal. Because those teams are competing at the same level.

The only problem is you go to that forum for Akron fans and the trash they are talking loses all respect for them. I like the team, I like to see them do well as do I with any other Ohio team, but when fans talk shit like that I lose respect for that teams fan base.

That is more of a chicken and the egg question. Were Akron/MAC fans always that bitter OR did the perceived arrogant attitude that Akron/MAC is minor league football create that bitterness?

Not saying that is the case, but you know us message board folk tend to take things to the extremes.

The Michigan game was bad news for all the little guys looking to surprise somebody this week. After seeing the consequences nobody wants to share that misery.

Boone in particular ought to have a whale of a game.

Didn't NC State win only 3 games last year? If so, I wouldn't call that much of an upset.

Wait wait wait...just a second. Akron beat NC State last year. THE SAME NC State that handed Div 1aa national champion App. State their only loss of the season? So what you are saying is that Akron is better than the best team in D1aa. Hmmm...I guess i'll have to agree. This is a tougher opponent than App. State would be. So in conclusion...MICHIGAN SUCKS!

Once again Ohio State's players face a former teammate

9/5/2007, 6:19 p.m. EDT The Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? What's brewing today with the 2007 Ohio State Buckeyes ...
BUCKEYE BUZZ:@ One of Ohio State's prized recruits back in 2004 was Dennis Kennedy, a tailback out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. But Kennedy failed to meet academic requirements and he transferred to Akron. He'll be the starting TB against the Buckeyes at noon on Saturday.
Kennedy topped 900 yards rushing and scored nine TDs a year ago for the Zips.

Kemme grows into Akron force
Upper Arlington graduate becomes roadblock at tackle

AKRON -- In the fall of 2004, Akron football recruiters knew they had to catch up in a hurry with the rest of the talent pool in the Mid-American Conference. That meant taking some gambles, and offensive line coach Brian Callahan might as well have been shooting craps when he began scouting undersized and under-publicized Upper Arlington tackle Chris Kemme.

I was at the OSU / Marshall game a few years ago where we could have easily been beaten. And that was a "tune up" game as well. It could certainly happen if we aren't mentally prepared.

OSU vs. Akron PreviewBy Tony Gerdeman

Saturday not only brings about a battle of old rivals, it marks an historic date in Ohio State football history.

Six years ago to the day, back on September 8, 2001, Jim Tressel coached his first game as The Head Coach at The Ohio State University.
And as history would have it, it also came against Akron.

That match up was the first time the two schools had met in 106 years. From 1891-1895, Akron and Ohio State played each year, with Ohio State winning four of the five contests.

Akron's lone win came on September 5, 1894.
