"Barkin' up the wrong tree"
Anyone else been following the GamerGate saga?
It feels like something that will quietly go the way of the dodo - but ALOT of people have been doxxed on both sides of the argument. That's scary!

1). Those who support GG will say that their actively seeking more transparency and accountability in gaming journalism - based primarily around claims that a female game developer was sleeping with journalists prior to reviews of her game being released on Steam.

2). Those opposing GG will say that "actively seeking more transparency and accountability in gaming journalism" is bullshit and they're really trying to maintain status quo in a business space that is 90% white and male dominated.

I wasn't really interested myself when I first heard about it, but I somehow found myself getting involved on other boards like the Shag. Here's some nice material that gives an overview:

Some good videos here too regarding gaming and the GamerGate stuff. It combats some of the claims Anita Sarkeesian has made and takes on some of the misogyny claims...and these videos come from a self proclaimed feminist. She's pretty level headed imo, I think these videos are very well done.

I have an important question to clear up something I'm confused on... Who gives a [Mark May]?!

If you're in the gaming board here, it probably affects you. Not everyone relies on game magazines and online sites to check reviews of games before they purchase, but many gamers do. It's well known that video game journalists have been in bed with developers for years and will often give more favorable reviews towards a game for different fringe benefits. These claims go back to the days of Nintendo Power, and they're just as prevalent today as they were then. By providing biased and skewed reviews of games it can manipulate the consumers to purchase a dud, which is a big reason why GamerGaters want to see the journalism collusion and corruption cleaned up.

As far as the misogyny stuff, a number of trolls have ruined the movement because of their doxing of people opposed to GamerGate, and most of those people opposed are female. The reason many of them are receiving a backlash is because SJW's like Sarkeesian are speaking out about the sexism and violence towards women in video games today. They're trying to make claims that these video games are making men misogynistic and violent when studies have shown the opposite. They effectively would like to remove any violence towards women in games (Despite the fact men are usually the targets) and make all women completely clothed, effectively returning us to the days of Super Mario Bros...(As long as there's an option to play as the Princess and save Mario instead).

Like I said.... Who gives a shit? People using money and sex to influence a product - Gorsh, Mickey, that's the first time I've heard about that.

As for Sarkeesian, if she did not dress like a nun with a broom up her ass then maybe some guy might then want to blow the dust off of that vagina.

She has the look of a sexually frustrated feminist.

Yeah, with the advent of Youtube and Tubbers that review games on their own, the need for game mags and dedicated websites has diminished. It was different back in the day when we only had video game publications and word of mouth to find out if a game was good or bad. I prefer to watch a "Let's Play" series on Youtube before I buy a game these days, unless it's an impulse buy.

As far as Sarkeesian...yup...I think you hit the nail on the head there

I agree on YouTube. The widespread availablity of information should make this a near non problem. I do, however enjoy my morning paper. Let's be honest though, the phrase "believe everything you read" comes to mind.

In the end it's just hard for me to take seriously the manipulation of scores on a product that literally consists of nothing more than 1's and 0's.
