When I see guys on campus or at games (in JWins' photos, or photos from other sites) they are covered in OSU gear.

Is this provided to them, or do they wear it themselves? If the former, then how does the University avoid a recruiting violation?

Jake Butt's photo at Mich1gAAn made me wonder- he's a huge OSU fan, but was decked out in enemy colors... I have a hard time imagining that he'd already own the gear.

CJ Barnett at his visit, I don't think this is as uncommon as you might think. Not that I'd wear UM stuff but I have items from probably half the conference.

If schools were allowed to give out apparel you'd see every kid in the same shirt with a Nike or adidas logo. I don't think they can do much more past lanyards.

My understanding is that the gear is "checked out" to the players and returned.
