George Hill (Pitt Signee)

Yep. Sounds like everyone is being honest and open with each other right now, which is sometimes the best you can hope for. All parties involved can make an informed decision about what is best for themselves and hopefully no one gets left in the lurch.

For sure. Looking at the combination of depth and 'ships AND the fact that he's an Ohio kid, I hope nothing but the best for him. But wow, in his shoes, stepping into this class and wanting to be on the offensive side of the ball, I'd be rebooking myself.

So, on that point, the talk of 'not afraid of competition' thing really bugs me. Note, this is based on my lacrosse kids, but I think it applies. I have kids who play for me in spring lax season who also play club ball in the off season. A couple of them are totally capable of making the state and national teams in their club. They, however, would rather PLAY on a team and get significant time on the field rather than only a couple minutes per game on the highest level teams.

I used to subscribe to the not afraid of competition thing until I watched a group of pretty enlightened 13 year olds make a strong case for having a heck of a lot of fun by playing a game they love.

Not saying that's what is going on here, clearly I don't know. But wanting to play and have an impact on the field can be a pretty significant drive.

Anyway he goes, I DO wish him success. He's one of ours and deserves to experience success regardless of his definition. Do I hope that's at tOSU? Darn right I do... But if not, I wish him success on any day he's not in S&G.

It looks like George wants to play offense, and I'm sure he'll find a team that will do that. I'm guessing he was pegged as an offensive guy when he committed, but since then we see more of a need at defense and are telling him he could play either way. I think the staff is just being realistic with him getting everything out in the open. I don't think hes afraid of competition, he just doesn't want to play D. Not a lot of skill guys want to play D, it seems like most want to play wideout. There is a ton of competition at wideout. Not necessarily on a team, because the coaches manage their rosters, but coming out of HS it seems like there is an unlimited number of wideouts. That's probably why when you look at the NFL top 100 salary cap hits for 2015 defensive players (DEs and CBs) make the most money after QBs. Very few wideouts make the top 50.

I'd love to see him in S&G, and I'd love to see him on the offensive side of the ball, but I think he'll be gone. Hope he stays because you never know what will happen with attrition and guys leaving early and they may need him on the offense.

Or the H-back depth I would say Hill is likely to move there than RB now that I think of it.
Exactly. After this year we probably still have Marshall Wilson and Samuel. But those 3 could all be gone the following year which opens it up a lot. After that it's pretty open. We have no one else proven at hb, but we recruited a few guys in 15 and 14 that could step into that role. Campbell and mclauren look like they fit the mold but right now they list at wr. We just have a ton of wideout canidates that i guess they expect two of them to slide downn

Based on what I have read in the thread I thought he wanted to stay on the offensive side of the ball and not be a DB.

He's Been hinting at moving to the defensive side for a few months. That's what's starting to move MSU to the head of his list. He's saying the right things for now, but he just came back from an unofficial to East Lansing...

Maybe he wants to join the team that was second last year and help turn them into the team that wins the national championship. No one should ever fault him for that. I hate to lose a great Ohio kid to that state, but it's better than him going down south and a lot better than him going to those clowns at ttun. Dantonio is a great coach, not a likeable guy, but a coach that would help mold Hill for the NFL at either RB or DB. That said, stay a buckeye!
