George Lucas = Greedy Lucas

I'm a huge Star Wars fan and planning on seeing the new movie ASAP..... though I was browsing some of George Lucas's interview material and am fairly pissed at all this money grubbing. Something tells me that George isn't in the poor house

George Lucas: People tend to think that I have a hand in every single thing that goes on at Lucasfilm. I have a staff that handles all the Internet activities for the company. I have no idea what the plans for Hyperspace might be. The only thing I want out of the Internet is for it to be very profitable for me. I would encourage all fans to join Hyperspace immediately

George Lucas: I haven’t been very involved in the Galaxies game. I’ve never even actually had a chance to play it. Sony has an exclusive contract with us involving this game so I’m going to leave it up to them to decide how best to administer the game. I’m basically just interested in the bottom line. If the game continues to generate massive amounts of cash, then I’m satisfied. I’m sure Sony will get things straightened out if the fans are upset.

George Lucas: It really makes me happy to hear that you spend a lot of money on Star Wars products. I believe all fans should start spending more on the collectibles. There is no need to be stingy. Borrow money if you have to, but you all need to buy as much of the Star Wars merchandising as possible. Don’t let me down.

Making Revenge of the Sith three hours in duration is not going to happen. It’s just too expensive. Adding another 45 minutes to the film would cost me something like $ 50 million dollars or more. I’m not made of money. If the fans would buy more Star Wars products, then I could afford to make the films as long as needed. Right now I can’t really afford to make the films the best they can be.

I contribute a lot of money to charities, but I have no desire to receive public credit for what I do. I have the George Lucas Educational Foundation that does much good work for our society. If you’re suggesting I’m not giving my fair share, then you are wrong. I pay more in taxes than you could believe.

George Lucas: Unfortunately, I just don’t have enough free time to read the books. I do thumb through the Dark Horse comic books during my spare time. I’m a fan of all the comics. If the fans truly love me, then all of you will get a subscription to every single one of the Star Wars comic books.

George Lucas: Neither major party represents my interests. I believe they should abolish all taxes so that people can enjoy their wealth. The taxes I have to pay are intolerable. We might as well be living under a Communist regime. I didn’t vote this time around

George Lucas: We’re living in different times. Back when I created Star Wars, the science-fiction genre was literally dead. It didn’t make any money back then. Now there are dozens of science-fiction films released each year and science-fiction shows are all over TV. Star Wars is not as unique as it use to be. There is a whole lot more competition. I don’t think it would be possible to capture the success of the old films a second time. It’s something you can’t predict. I’m pretty satisfied with how The Phantom Menace performed at the box office, however, Attack of the Clones was bitterly disappointing. Hopefully, the fans will show up for this one.

George Lucas: We really need for the fans to come out and see Revenge of the Sith many, many times. It would be nice if each fan could see the film twenty or thirty times. It really is going to hold up to multiple viewings so you will be rewarded with finding something new each time you watch the film. Thanks for the compliment.

Is this stuff for real? Seriously? If it is, sounds like a little bit of an advertising education might be useful to him... there's a reason all the commercials on TV don't just say, "Hey, give us your cash. A lot of it. Really, 'cause we want it." Not that the honesty isn't refreshing...

it's all cut and past from interviews at SuperShadow.com

At first I thought, he's just being funny and the sarcasm isn't showing up in print. Though if that's the case he's really driving the joke into the ground.

While I don't doubt that money is a big issue for Lucas, I have a hard time believing those interviews are real. You don't earn the type of success Lucas has by making such idiotic statements.

If you want the most accurate news regarding the Star Wars franchise I suggest you go to www.theforce.net.

Here's a few more from a March 6th interview.

http://www.supershadow.com/starwars/lucas/

Supershadow is run by one of Lucas's friends. It's the most popular star wars site and gets more traffic than prob all of the others put together. They have exclusive interviews with every major cast member listed and George answers fans questions there often. All this is straight from the horses mouth.

George Lucas: I don’t put messages into the credits of my films. I can understand why you are anxious to hear an official announcement that we are going to begin working on Episode 7, but now is not the time. We need to wait for the Revenge of the Sith box-office numbers to come in before we make any further decisions. If the new movie does well in theaters, then we will begin working on Episode 7 by 2010.

George Lucas: I have no idea what those games are about. I know they have made me a lot of money so obviously I am happy with them and hope the games continue for quite some time. My ideas of the Force are very limited. There are only certain things I will let the Jedi and Sith do in the films. It’s alright with me if the game designers exaggerate the Force and make it more dynamic for the sake of entertaining the fans. The games do not represent my vision of Star Wars so they can do whatever they want in the games as long as they remain very profitable.

George Lucas: I don’t keep tabs on what games we are developing for Sony platforms. Right now we have an extremely lucrative exclusivity deal with Microsoft. This deal is why the Knights of the Old Republic games will never end up on the PlayStation. I would encourage you to buy an X-Box so that you can experience the finest in Star Wars gaming.

George Lucas: If we end up making the sequels, it will likely be in Australia because of the enormous amount of money we can save down there. If we make a TV show, it would likely be made in Canada since it is much cheaper to film there. I don’t believe we could get a cast of American actors to spend months on end in Australia separated from their families, but many TV shows are shot in Canada so I see no reason why we couldn’t do the same.

H definitely is a monetary power broker. When the first movie came out a few years ago (Ep I I mean...or maybe it was the second, but I'm pretty sure it was the first), every dollar of every ticket went to him...all the theaters got was concessions (which of course is still a lot, but still). I'm with Mili, though...I can't see him saying all that, but he is a bit on the eccentric side, so anything is possible.

Here is our proof that these quotes are fake. For the last 10 years Lucas has said he will not make any more Star Wars movies after the prequel trilogy....ever. He has consistently stated his age and the desire to move on to other projects as reasons he did not want to invest the time into more movies after this one. To believe he would change his mind now without a greater explanation is beyond reasonable belief.
