Georgia Bulldogs (2021-2022 National Champions)

College football bonuses throughout sport near $14 million after bowls, playoffs

Per USA Today’s Steve Berkowitz, college football bonus money paid to coaches and their staff will top $13.5 million in the coming weeks.
.
.
.
Not surprisingly, no coach soared to greater incentive monies than Georgia’s Kirby Smart. Per USA Today, Smart’s contract awards him $850,000 -- $450,000 of which stems from the Bulldogs’ two CFP wins.

For perspective, Smart's bonus earnings alone are more than 15 Football Bowls Subdivision coaches' annual salaries.

Georgia starting DB Latavious Brini enters transfer portal
January 17
Georgia redshirt senior DB Latavious Brini, who started 11 games at the Bulldogs’ “star” position (hybrid safety/linebacker spot) this season, officially has entered the transfer portal. Brini, who is from Miami, had 38 tackles and eight pass breakups this season. Brini redshirted in 2017, then saw scant action the next two seasons. He played in seven games in 2020, including a start at safety in the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati.

Georgia football has self-reported three minor recruiting violations and six overall within its athletics program that occurred between October through the end of December 2021 in its latest quarterly summary, which was obtained by The Athens Banner-Herald through an open records request.

Georgia classified all six impermissible recruiting violations under the Level III distinction, which is considered limited in nature by the NCAA.

According to The Athens Banner-Herald, one of the football violations occurred after a Georgia staffer lent a recruit's parent money at the university's bookstore. There was promise of repayment, but it did not happen after the staff member failed to collect the money prior to the family's departure from campus.

Remember when Ohio State reported something like 4 trillion minor violations? One was something dumb, like an assistance coach called a recruit's parents because they hadn't picked up their tickets from will call, yet, to make sure they were coming. And I think another was that there were mini basketballs in the weight room when some football players were working out.
