Georgia Bulldogs (2021-2022 National Champions)

Remember when Ohio State reported something like 4 trillion minor violations? One was something dumb, like an assistance coach called a recruit's parents because they hadn't picked up their tickets from will call, yet, to make sure they were coming. And I think another was that there were mini basketballs in the weight room when some football players were working out.
and it was all over Sportscenter when that show mattered

Georgia football hires assistant Bryan McClendon away from Miami Hurricanes

Georgia football has hired assistant coach Bryan McClendon to return to his alma mater less than a month after he took a job with Miami (Fla.).

McClendon had been on new Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal's staff at Oregon, and he followed Cristobal to Miami, taking a job early this month as receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator.

But on Monday, the national champion Bulldogs announced McClendon is joining coach Kirby Smart's staff as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, the same titles McClendon had for the previous two seasons at Oregon.

ATHENS — A linebacker who signed with the Georgia Bulldogs earlier this month has been hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

E.J. Lightsey was one of two individuals injured by gunfire in his hometown of Fitzgerald on Monday around 6:30 p.m., according to police. Lightsey was transferred by ambulance to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany with what is described as non-life-threatening injuries. The other victim’s injuries are life-threatening, police said.

“There was a shooting that took place here last night, and E.J. Lightsey was one of our victims,” said Maj. James Reynolds of the Fitzgerald Police Department. “He was shot. His injuries are critical but not life-threatening. He was transported from Dorminy (Medical Center in Fitzgerald) to Phoebe Putney (Hospital) in Albany, and that’s where he is now.”

Reynolds described the incident as “possibly a gang-related shooting.” He said indications are that “Lightsey was just an innocent bystander.”

“Wrong place, wrong time. Got caught up in the crossfire,” Reynolds said.

Police said while those were the only two victims reported as of Tuesday morning, there may be others. He said the GBI is assisting with the investigation and processing the scene. There currently are no suspects, and police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

To what extent Lightsey’s injuries will affect his football career is currently unknown. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker was a star player on Fitzgerald’s Class 2A state championship team this season. Ranked as a 3-star prospect and the No. 44 inside linebacker nationally by 247Sports.com, Lightsey signed with the Bulldogs on Feb. 4 and was expected to enroll at UGA for summer classes the first week of June.

Losing Matt Luke probably hurt. Replacing Luke with Searels probably hurt more. Apparently Mims felt that Kirby has been jerking him around regarding the playing time he promised during recruitment against what actually happened.

Good luck to them both.

Matt Luke talks about his surprising decision to leave UGA

Former UGA offensive line coach Matt Luke spoke for the first time after his stunning resignation from the Bulldogs last month.

Luke left the business to spend more time with his family, he told Dawgs247′s Rusty Mansell:

“There’s a lot of fear, nervousness about it, because you’ve never done anything else,” Luke said. “But I didn’t want to have any regrets. My oldest son’s 14, my youngest one’s 10, and I didn’t want to have any regrets about seeing them grow up and being there. "

The 45-year-old Luke was only at UGA for two years, but he made his time count. He somehow found a way to keep momentum with OL recruiting after following in the gigantic footsteps of his predecessor, Sam Pittman – the current head coach at Arkansas. Luke also joked about the good luck of his UGA timing on Monday:

“I told Kirby (Smart) I’d help him win one (a championship), it just happened a little faster than I thought.”
