I was listening to ESPN radio earlier today, and Mel Kiper appears to have a man-crush on Matt Stafford. He was talking up all the dawgs pretty good, referring to Moreno as "Heisman winner", before correcting himself. He then referred to Stafford as the "top gun" in college football and a potential Heisman candidate. Huh? The guy who was fifth in the SEC last year between Wilson and Flynn? The guy who completed just over %55 and averaged less than 200 yds/gm? That Matt Stafford is now better than Harrell, Daniels, Bradford, Painter, and Tebow? Kiper kept talking about how much zip his throws had in HS, and how he could be a #1 draft pick. Is this why GA is getting so much love in the press? Because Stafford is going to be the best QB in the country, despite being mediocre the rest of his career? Some analysts have said that if GA doesn't make it to the NC, it will be because of the tough schedule. I would be willing to bet that the dawgs drop one to a 6-8 win team. GA will be a good team, but if Stafford playing like Peyton Manning is the key to their NC run, they're in big trouble.

I agree re: Stafford. I can't think of one moment where he just made me say "wow." This year could be the one where he makes a big leap forward, but until I see it against someone not named Georgia Southern I'll withhold judgment.

Stafford is more Eli Manning than Peyton Manning. However, that's probably kind of an insult to Eli Manning.

He seems to have all of the "tools" and the hype that they look for in a top-pick QB. He could end up being the type that's not as good as people say he is now, and then one day ends up being better than people say he is. Or he could end up being David Carr.

Sooooooo worth it to watch the slideshow! Highlights: Some guests sitting on overturned milk crates due to lack of chairs, the rings, sitting in the crevices of a waffle, and the bride, in her dress, standing behind the waffle house counter.

Geez, the UF and LSU fans on this site are just creating too many gosh darn threads about the SEC. We've got SEC threads, Auburn threads, Georgia threads now ... where does it all end? These guys are obsessed!

Obsessed I say.

It's really interrupting my ability to get through all 2,942 posts in the Rich Rodriguez thread,* and the 3,303 posts in the U-M News/Recruiting thread, the 1,405 posts in the Notre Dame thread, and even the 1,353 posts in the Charlie Weis thread. (All of which, of course, does not include the 1,232 posts in the thread that is NOT about Notre Dame football).

Obsessed I tell ya!!!

* The Jim Tressel thread has only 1,244 posts.

I thought this was worth a mention.

cfn.SEC.blog

Georgia coach Mark Richt's son Jon, is a freshman quarterback - with Clemson under Tommy Bowden. Richt told the media that his son already called home for money.

Richt said, "you can just walk to the cafeteria son, you have a meal plan." Richt said he sent no money to his son after asking his son why he was saying he was telling him that he was broke after one week.

Bulldogs decide to wear black for only third time ever

Knowshon Moreno and Georgia last wore black at the Sugar Bowl.

ATHENS, Ga. -- For only the second time in the regular season -- and third time overall --the University of Georgia will wear black during a regular-season football game.
Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a news conference Sunday that, at the request of his seniors, the Bulldogs will wear black instead of the traditional red against Alabama in a matchup of top-10 teams (ESPN, 7:45 p.m. ET).
The Bulldogs wore black last November against Auburn, and again in the Sugar Bowl against Hawaii. Georgia won big in both games.
