Gotham Classic: tOSU vs. Notre Dame, Sat 12/21 @ 7:30p ET, ESPN2

As has been rehashed already, they might've known, but the semester didn't end until today so he was still eligible.
If it was for academic misconduct and not just grades (as is hinted at in the article and in the quotes from his letter), he should have been ineligible as soon as it came to light. At the very least Brey should have held him out. Now, it is possible it did not come to light until after the game, just very unlikely.

well yes and now because Notre Dame will not be as good of a team without him so they probably will lose some games that he might have helped them win down the road which will affect the RPI at the end of the season

Yes, but you would hope that the Selection Committee would view this win for OSU moreso as a win against a tourney team than a team that isn't one because in fairness ND played more like a tourney team than a non-tourney team against OSU.

Brey may not have known about it yet - it really depends on when Ntre Ame's academic compliance types told him I guess.

If Ohio State's seeding comes down to a game against Ntre Ame in December, they didn't take care of business in February and March in my IMO.

Every game matters for seeding. The more good wins you have, the better seed you get. It's cumulative, it's all part of building a resume. I just hope this win doesn't get forgotten and gets a proper review from the Selection Committee because it would be unfair of them to look at this win and say "just another irrelevant win over a weak team," it's a win you should count as a win over an NCAA tourney caliber team because that's how they were playing at the time.

Now, I do think the more I read, the more it looks like ND knew it was going to be Grant's last game going into it. They wanted to send him out with a bang, and they got one just not what they had hoped.

From my observations of Ohio State basketball over the past decade or so, the differences between being a 1 seed and an 8 seed really isn't all that much in terms of the difficulty of your road through the tournament.

If you are playing well you advance, if you're not playing well you drop- maybe a round or two earlier as a lower seed.

College basketball- where the regular season is as meaningless as you can make it. I can't wait to see college football follow suit.

Every time I think of a No. 8 seed, I think about playing Siena in Dayton and Bill Rafferty saying "onions" multiple times.
