I hate to say it, but Tibor has a point. While he may come off as an asshole, most handicapped people always claim to want to be treated equally, and to not have exceptions made for them. While I don't think that this particular case is "pathetic" at all, most handicapped people will tell you that they want to be treated like everyone else.

Why would I show empathy for him? Maybe he doesn't want to feel handicapped and is annoyed whenever people like you feel sorry for him.

do you know the difference between empathy and sympathy?

I'm sure he wants no one's pity - but anybody should receive empathy.

and I'll bet Golferdow doesn't feel in the least sorry for him, but happy for him.

man, one of the most positive stories in sports in forever, and you have to dump negativity on this one, too!

I just wanna know why this kid wasn't getting playing time before? Let alone not starting.

He was on fire that night. Are the other players on the team that great that they would start ahead of a guy that scored 20 points in like 4 minutes?

Or was this more of a "spur of the moment" thing?

Can you say, "Rain Man" ?

I just watched the actual video, and it is one of the most awesome things that i've seen in awhile. I mean I know at my school there is an autistic kid that will sink some 3's in the special ed basketball games (and everyone goes crazy), but I can't imagine witnessing something like this. I love the reaction from his teammates and the stadium everytime he made a shot.

It is a feel good story and you have to be happy for the kid to finally get his shot.

I'm sure the other team initially wasn't to concerned with guarding the kid. His first two shots were air balls and it was first playing time all year. But they took notice quickly and didn't try to leave him open looks near the end.

I volunteer with Special Olympics whenever I get a chance, and to see the joy on those kids faces as they get the chance to really compete is priceless. For years, they've heard so many negative things about their potential and their maximum development limits that, when they get to hoist a Gold Medal, it is a very heart warming moment.

Imagine being this kids father. Being told that your kid will always have physical and mental limitations. And then, he plays a game like this. If I were his father, I'd be smiling for months. This really is a triumph.
