Hey-- Why not Stripes.

Problem with "War Movies" is that you can place most of them into Mini Genres as long as they involve some kind of Miltary activity... or you can leave them out of the "War Movie" Genre all together.

So you could have Bridge on the River Kwai and Stalag 17 in a Genre... or Das Boot and maybe Crimson Tide and Hunt for Red October in another. (I never me a Submarine movie I didn't like at least a little... even that one with Kelser Grammer.)

Then, you get stuff like Apocalypse Now that you could toss out of "War Genre's" completely because its a character study that happens during a war... the story could be told in a whole different context if you wanted to... Platoon goes toward this as well... but the characters in that are supposed to be representative of Vietnam...

But... sure... M.A.S.H., Stripes, Top Gun... you can work them in somehow.

Lets not forget "A Bridge Too Far" either. :wink2:

Oh... and Guns of the Navarone.

You ask, "Why not Stripes"? Uh, you think maybe because it has absolutely nothing to do with any war? Stripes is not a war movie by any stretch of the imagination. Besides, the movie is so fucking stupid it's ridiculous.

Back to the topic at hand:

The Great Escape is one of the best war movies of all-time.
