Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

I am fairly confident that the salary reported for JoePa (280k?) is significantly lower than what he actually makes. They didn't get the actual contract released, just the salary. With media appearances, benefits, and reward platueas, I would bet he reaches 2 million annually. But I could be all wrong.

You are correct in that only the salary was reported, but it was slightly over 500K.

Rutgers get's a PSU Recruit!

Wow, it's amazing what this guy has done for College Football in NJ the last few years.

Rutgers football was an embarrasment for a long, long time. Former players didn't want to admit they played for Rutgers. Imagine that compared to Columbus.

Up until Schiano got here it was a state law that if were a D-1 recruit you went to Penn State (or anywhere but Rutgers) so I'm glad we took one away from them.

I've seen a couple of their games live and it's a nice place to see a game. Rutgers play a watered down SEC type of football that I didn't like.

What are the chances for a home and home vs. Rutgers? It seems like it would be a... Compelling match up.

I hope it last and Greg stays for a while, if not for ever.

Penn State's campus is called Happy Valley, can we start calling Rutgers New FUNswick?

I think Penn State is going to even up the score....if not take the lead....next year when they steal Rutgers' coach.

I actualy don't think he will leave. I give RU a 65% chance of retaining him.

They just broke ground on a 102 million stadium expansion that he pushed through. He's got a sweetheart deal, and apparently his family is happy in NJ (Penn State is too "country" for them). He's already turned down Miami and the Skunkbears.

I don't see why a Pennsylvania recruit would choose Rutgers over Penn State if he has any inkling the coach will be gone before he even get's there. That being said, there is still a long way to go before RU Football will be in the same league as PSU (no pun intended).

Besides, he has a four million dollar penalty built into his contract if he leaves for another school. But I heard there were some vague verbal agreements made behind close doors, so he should be able to get out of that pretty easily :).

Only half a million dollar penalty.

Unfortunately it looks like it will be voided due to the stadium expansion not being completed by 2009.

ESPN - Report: Schiano can leave without penalty if project not finished - College Football

Wow. That's the best they can do? Surprised Ferentz's name hasn't popped up.
