Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

So you're saying it's a done deal? Cool.

I'd be fine with Schiano. Todd Orlando down at Houston is another one I'd interview, though it's probably bad form to start poaching Herman's assistants after one year.

Why would it be bad form? I like Herman but he's gone. Would we hesitate to offer promotions to guys off Dantonio or Hazells staff if we wanted them?

Not trying to get hopes up so early in the coaching search process. But this would be a great hire! Not only a great recruiter for NJ and South FL, but also a very good defensive mind, if he could turn Rutgers around, he must know a thing or two. Not to mention coaching and bringing out the best in guys like Dan Morgan, Ed Reed, Jon Vilma, Mike Rumph(current American Heritage Head Coach) and Philip Buchanon. Fingers crossed for this one...

I'm curious if Schiano is interested in restarting his career and jumping back to HC or if he wants to have the relative security and reduced stress of being Urban's right hand man long term.

The latter would be great for stability at OSU, which would be great for the longevity of Urban's tenure.
Frankly, I'm a little puzzled he hasn't found a HC job yet. Rutgers was a crater before he got there, and he actually made them a pretty solid program. Yeah, there was a little bit of a stink on him after flaming out in Tampa, but it's not like college coaches flaming out in the NFL is unprecedented. This is about as good a hire as we could hope for.

*Edit* Damn, he's only 49. I thought he was in his mid-50s. Lot of tread left on those tires.

Yeah, this.

Only negative I could find from this hire, and it's pretty minor, is that the hire might only be a temporary couple of years until he gets another HC gig. I like it. I also wondered what it would mean for guys like Johnson. Would he have any designs on being a DC or Associate HC at some point? I sure as hell don't want to lose that guy!

Awesome job by the staff yet again. Now if we could just find us a new OC........

I've heard that he pushes players and that has rubbed GM's and possibly ADs the wrong way. His style suits college more than NFL, IMO. We'll certainly see a hard playing team, some schools don't like their players pushed to the degree he wants. This is conjecture that I've heard BTW
